Hi Everyone, Thank you for being here and reading my question.

I have an 1985 John Deere 1050, diesel Yanmar engine. The original manual specifies 30W oil for the summer season.

With the advances in engine oil, is there a better oil to use in this tractor, or should I stick with the 30W?

Many Thanks, Eric.

I’m a fan of JD 0w40, or 5w40 in other brands of synthetics.

Straight 30W is getting to be pretty antiquated, I have some but I only use it on push mowers. It was used more commonly back before the better multi-viscosity oils we have now.

I have a 1050 and i just did an oil change, I used 15w-40 Mobil Delvac and a Napa Gold filter.
