Curious about extended warranty. I bought a new 3038e about a year ago...173 hours.
I've been very happy, only trouble was backhoe cylinder leak , but FEL and B.H. are Woods (painted green).
Here's the email...
Would you get it? If so, which one? Me personally I'd either go with 4 year or none. My reason is $1,686 would be worth it if something major happened, plus four years pease of mind and it's transferable.
Not sure (anyone know?) if FEL and BH are covered also since they were on it new.
Thanks

It's insurance, plain and simple.
Are you OK with paying out of pocket for a major repair?
Are you OK with spending $1,600 now knowing that you may never use it?
Only you can answer this.

I opted for warranty and rolled the cost into the financing.
I didn't want to need to take a loan to fix a tractor that I'm making payments on.
But that's just me, and this is about you.

If I had a 3E series, I would get the extended warranty. No question.

I never purchase them. They wouldn't sell them if they weren't making money from them and based on the amount of mail I receive from JD "encouraging" me to purchase one, they must make a lot of money on them.

It is insurance and I Have never purchased any more insurance than I have to. For example, I purchased a new pontoon boat, three jets skis, and a small fishing boat in a 2 year period. I had insurance on them all. The premium was adding up to just shy of $1000/year for all of it. After two years I said the heck with that and cancelled it all. Eleven years later we have a super cell storm and it picks up my pontoon out of the water, carries it 100', and drops it back in the lake....upside down. I salvaged the 90HP outboard and the Sea Legs, but it was cost more than it was worth to repair the pontoon itself. I sold waht was left of it for $1300. Kind of a kick in the pants, considering I paid near $13K for it. Of course, if I had kept the insurance in force, it would have paid for it....the depreciated value. Considering the depreciated value and what I saved in the premium I didn't pay, I figured I was still out, worse case, $2000. However, if you factor in the premium on the rest of the watercraft that I also have not been paying, I'm way ahead of what the insurance company would have paid out on the pontoon.

I have a 1% deductible on my homeowner's insurance, also. I have recovered that 1% at least twice over in what it has saved on my premium.

It's a decision each person should make based upon their own risk tolerance, finances, machine use, etc.

I would suggest reading the link below, I walk through the way I calculated it's "value" based upon the coverage it offers, the price they charge and the hours limitations, etc. and how I actually use my tractor. Maybe it will be helpful for you as well...........

Deere sent me the "It's time for peace of Mind / PowerGuard" pitch. Hmmmm
