First impression of a 2720 after a 2320. WOW!!! Not what I expected at all.

Yesterday after the 2720 was delivered, I only drove it about 30 feet into my shop. Today it is too muddy to get off of the driveway, so I moved the tractor & attachments out to the barn. Not much time, but enough to make me wonder why I did not do this along time ago.

I expecting a 2320 with more power & faster hydraulics, but everything else to be pretty much the same.
My first compact tractor was a JD 4400. The 2720 reminds me alot of the sound & feel of that tractor.
Almost all of our property is sloping. When I had the loader, forks & ballast on the 2320, I could only run it at high RPMs & in low range. It really struggled when I added a several hundred pound load on the forks.
The 2720 did not even grown when it had the loader, forks & ballast while running at 1500 rpms & in high range.

Another surprise was how much more stable the 2720 feels than the 2320. The 2320 seemed to move around alot when driving on uneven ground. The 2720 is alot smoother.

As I said above, I did not get much seat time, but I got enough to know that I made the right choice.
I will update this as I get more seat time.

This picture shows the the lay of our property.

Thanks, Looking forward to the review.:munch:
I have the 2520 and it is a great tractor, I almost purchased a 2320 and I am so glad that 2520 was sitting there next to the 2320 calling my name.
Very nice tractor Chris, and great job on those dollies! I'm thinking you know a little about woodworking.:thumbup1gif:
I think your new machine will continue to amaze you everytime you use it.

Greg
ChrisR nice looking rig there! Crazy weather mud in January :unknown: who'd a thunked it.

PS my lab would love to have that pond behind the house.
Thanks for the initial thoughts on the 2 machines, looking forward to more! :thumbup1gif:
Looks like a well deserved upgrade. :thumbup1gif: I too upgraded recently, went from a 16 hp Yanmar to a Deere 317 skid steer. I have so far seen such a huge difference that I wonder how I went for so long without a bucket! :unknown:
Thanks everyone.

I got to drive it back to the shop today. The Original Cab was delivered today.
I got a couple of the brackets installed. I hope I get time tomorrow to finish the install.
cab for the 2720

where did you get the cab? I am thinking of getting one for my 2520. What do you think about the material on the cab?
Cant wait for the pics with the cab on it. I'd love to have a cab on mine in the summertime. I'm gonna have to design an a/c system for these.smaller deeres... I wonder how a window unit would look setting up on top? let's see mmmnn....generator could maybe fit on the roof too or get a
very long extention cord....run the drainline down ahead of the feeder tube for instant irrigation........oooh ha .....I'm gonna be rich!

Seriously if you can...take us along on the build....take plenty of pics!

I was going to get the Original Cab through my JD dealer, but the cabs were out of stock until at lease the end of February.
I found a JD dealer selling them on Ebay that had several in stock. I bought one from him last Thursday & it was delivered yesterday.

I used one for 7 winters on 2 other tractors. I take the cab off for the warm months. The old cab material still looks great.

I have seen a car driving down the road that had a house ac unit in the right door window.
Another surprise

This afternoon my JD salesman delivered the front hitch mounting brackets & loader arm decals.
There was no charge for either & he installed the decals.:good2:

After he left, I installed the mounting brackets & made sure the front hitch, front PTO, & 47 snow blower had no problems.

The surprise was when I hooked up the rear ballast box to the 2720. I have a cart for my ballast box. When hooking or unhooking it on the 2320,
I had to be sure the box & cart were in a low spot in the barn floor because the 2320 3 point hitch would not raise high enough on a
level floor to get the cart in or out from the box.

After I got done checking out the snowblower, I hooked up the ballast box. I could not believe how much higher the 2720 3 point hitch raises than the 2320.
There is no problem getting the cart out from under the ballast now.

May have been the way the 2320 lift arms were set. Your picture looks to be about normal for both tractors with the lift arms set in the middle holes.

I guess I am surprised that the 2320 would not lift as high also. Sorry, it just doesn't sound right. I can get good clearance with my 2305 and ballast box setup.

Just a word of caution Chris. I see you have cold joints in your concrete. If you aren't really careful you can push the box right of the dolly when a wheel catches one of those joints. That is why I put side guides on my dolly. Just something to think about. Oh, they help guide it for placement also.

:eek::eek: Welllll, I guess that is what happens when your mind starts to go. Thanks for the reminder Gizmo2. When I fist got the 2320, I set the 3 point arms so it would raise high enough to get the ballast box off of the cart, but not raise it to high for when I had the Trac Vac hooked up & needed to raise the mower deck. It was never a problem until I added wood skids & a hitch to the bottom of the ballast box. By that time I had forgotten the arms were adjustable.:eek::eek:

With the independent lift, it does not matter where the arms are set.

Thanks for the advice Randy.

What were we talking about?
Happens to me all the time. But I don't mind looking like a dumbass on a forum, I don't really know anyone.:mocking:

What loader decals? My dealer told me they were discontinued and that I had to purchase them. Were they left off or discontinued?
What loader decals? My dealer told me they were discontinued and that I had to purchase them. Were they left off or discontinued?
When I did the walk around at the dealers, they did not have the setup finished. I took a few pictures of the tractor during the walk around. I did not notice the decals were missing until I got home & downloaded the pictures to my computer.

I had to call my salesman back with for some other information. I asked him if they still had to put decals on the loader. He told me that they were discontinued. I said OK & thought I would add them later.
The next time I talked to him, he told me he had checked with their parts department & found that the decals were still listed as a OEM part for the 200CX loader. He ordered them & installed them for no charge.
