first time replacing belt on Z910A

2096 Views 10 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  3DeepNGreen
I'm hoping this belt replacement is going to be easier than it looks . This is one time I will adhere to the manual step per step removal and installation . That and double checking may increase the possibility for getting everything back together correctly and tightened up . It seems I now have a bit of chemo brain to go with old age and probably shy of a full load at the starting line . LOL I more than welcome any tips ,words of wisdom ,wishing of luck or as we say in the south " bless his hart " . I have obtained a wealth of info here and enjoy reading your post . I am not shy about owning my mistakes (and I make my share) and will post some so maybe others will learn from them not make the same . Well it has cooled down enough for me to get to that belt . A good evening to all be safe

I taking this belt replacement is the mower deck one. If so, it is best to remove the deck from under the tractor so you will have plenty of room to handle the items to be removed. While you are at this task, it is best that you replace the three idler pully's also. Also, might as well replace the PTO drive belt while you are doing this. Remember to "write down" where each spacer and washer is located under or over the idler pully's like in the diagram below. If you fail to install them back in their proper location, you will be replacing the belt once again.

There's a diagram on the deck of my 910. It's not too bad. You do need to loosen the keepers and rotate them out of the way so the belt will go on the pulleys.

Why would you replace the idlers? I've had one of my 717 for 15 years or so and the 910 for probably close to 10 years and I've never replaced an idler on either of the. I've also only replaced the drive belt on the 717 once. Also, there is absolutely no need to remove the mower deck. Replacing that belt is easy.

I want to thank everyone for their input .I have goter done and I used a bit of everyone's input considering all of it before diving in .There is no doubt it went smoother too. I purchased the deck belt and blades last fall and it is good that I did . Unfortunately I had health issues come up shortly after that .I couldn't do chemo and fabricate steel so I am on a tight budget for now. I would liked to have replaced both belts and one idler will need replaced hopefully both will last until next season . I don't have a smart phone but my tablet takes good pics that were very helpful indeed. I was also thinking I would need to remove the keepers adding more time and effort to the project unnecessary. I just finished the final check, every thing looks good and will give it a test run when the temp is lower this evening Thanks again ,I will let yall know how it turns out..

would you happen to have the part description that matches the numbers on the diagram? Would be very useful later. Thanks.

I thank you Gizmo2 for the link . I will put to work when making repairs and needing parts. I will look it over closely and get to know more about it. I have worker on varied types of machinery but the Z 's have systems and technologies that are new to me although may be similar in basic principles as some of the older ones . Thanks again and most applicable 3Deep On the subject ,my belt replacement task worked out perfectly . I dabble checked the the new blades and had just enough time before sunset to walk the mowing area picking up ,rolling up and preparing to begin mowing at first lightish . 20 minutes into the mow Something loudly existed the deck . I located a cast iron decorative dish that looked bad . My wife had used it for watering her pet chicken . We would have been married for 40 next month (I think next month .May be this month mmm ) . On second thought I think we will call this one a draw as we both forgot something . She said that one of them was of WAY more importance than the other . I said to her " I agree 100% and when you get the new blades we'll be even " . I hidden her rolling pin but have not slept sense . Well I gotta go try to find something with that date on it ..
