Flipping the forks?

7171 Views 11 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  NEWT
Has anyone ever flipped the forks on a set of forks to gain height? I need to trim a tree in the front yard and need about 2-3 ft more and figure I may be able to flip the forks over and gain about 3-4 ft. May be a problem getting the man-lift on but I am sure that part is doable. My forks are from Horst Welding.

I have Horst forks also and I think that you can flip them BUT I don't think that the lift pin that holds them from sliding off will work. The bottom of mine is not notched like the top. The forks could slide off and with a man in the bucket, that could be bad! So take a video if you do it

The wife and I were just in the hot tub (hot tub is talk time ya know) and I told her what I wanted to check out and she said the same thing.

BTW the statement "that could be bad! So take a video if you do it" made me loose my grapefruit juice, that was tooooo funny.

Thats the norm. All my wife keeps saying is "with me driving the tractor?" meaning her.

So do you have a video camera?

Can your wide drive and record?

I have an idea if you have a ladder , but let me finish mythbusters to see if it will work.

I do have a video camera. I think I beat you to the ladder idea.
Do you think a video would be worth any money? I would guess, probably not unless it all turned to S***.
Of course now, thanks to you guys, I really have the need to try it all out.....maybe.

I sure as heck you have fluid in the rear tires!!! No other rear ballast shown. Never really thought of flipping the forks over, good idea! What I would do, place the man lift on a trailer or pick up bed, then flip the forks and pick it up. Put something on the 3pt for additional ballast. The higher you get the lifted object, the more tippy things get. Im not Mr. Safety by any means, but sometimes he does need to make his presents know.. :nunu:

Oh, and find a way to make sure the forks dont come off.
