Did you get the new 7.3? My 2019 with the 6.2 avg is 13 mixed as well Hwy I’m getting 16.5, towing about 8.
Yes I have the 7.3. I have the Tremor package so I have the 4:30 gears and 35” tires. I only have 3,000 miles on the truck. I seem to be getting slightly better mpg towing than my 16 6.2 did. UnloadEd Is slightly less. Over all the mpg might be pretty close.
MPG & Truck do not belong in the same sentence.

Doing work requires fuel and power.

If you're not really doing any work and are more concerned about mileage - there is a Prius over there for you to drive.

If you are compensating, just look at the cost of Viagra, and your MPG will not seem that bad.

I notice a very large difference between the truck empty and one loaded with tools and towing a trailer. That does require fuel and power but most truck owners aren't doing that full time. Even my farm truck runs empty much of the time, except for the tool box with a couple of hundred pounds of tools. Mileage on that gets killed by creeping around the farm fields. It's low speed but mileage isn't good either.

I look at a truck as a tool and the capability of the tool is the most important feature. Everything else is just fluff. Some of the fluff is nice, but I look at horsepower, torque, gear ratio, towing capacity, etc and go from there.

Trucks have been compromised enough by the daily commuter market.

I would say "most" truck owners don't use them as trucks at all.

What so funny they have had the technology since the 1970's to get about 40 plus miles to the Gallon In 8 cylinder Pick Up trucks But they Have never Implemented it . My Last Nissan Titan Got 20MPG driving local & 22mpg Highway My Nissan Titan XD Gets about 14 Local & 18 On the Highway I would just be Happy with My Old Mileage (y)
How about Standard Oil, Phillips 66, (insert legacy oil company or their new names here) and major investors like Buffet. Add Ford and GM. and you will come back to that world wide industrialist/political group that meets once a year in Davos. Interesting reading .....
Do I wish my truck got better gas mileage, sure doesn't everybody ? I always tell people the same thing,

Fuel mileage doesn't matter if you're driving what you want.

Fuel economy isn’t important as long as you can afford to fill the tank.

It's a little better now but dropping $120 or so to fill up my pickup wasn't fun.
Aerodynamics is going to play a big role too; but once again streamlining a rolling brick won't be easy.
My 2020 ford is struggling to get 13 mpg. If mpg is important to you ,you probably shouldn’t buy a full size truck. View attachment 748883
Have you tried folding in the mirrors. :ROFLMAO: I love them and would not change them a bit for 2mpg but I find it funny that when GM started removing antenna's the amount of mpg gained across a million vehicles was something. Then I consider the mirrors on my truck.

I would love to see a two speed selective rear end in a truck so you could decide if your hauling or just commuting. I think that would make a difference in fuel economy. With as much technology as we have now, weight sensors and torque sensors should be installed to automatically select which speed in the differential is needed.
Mine is a 6 speed and it turns very few rpms at 60mph, I would think the 10 speeds are even less. Like the idea I am just not sure how much it would help.

That is true. I am in the camp that my truck is a truck and I take my car for car stuff.
My 2017 F150 bounces between 90 and 99 mpg on a regular basis, but then I get to the bottom of the hill. It has been getting around 19 mph lately but if I do much in town driving or towing it goes downhill in a hurry.

I'm no rocket surgeon, but at some point it takes X BTUs to move 6000 lbs one mile, and only ___ BTUs in a gallon of fuel.

Pretty sure there's a better chance of shoving soft butter up a wild cats ass with a red hot poker than any of us ever seeing 60 mpg from what we consider a pickup truck in our life time.

The only way to improve the MPG at this point is to improve efficiency and reduce wind drag. Losing mirrors, door handles and everything sticking out creating wind drag needs to go.
A gasoline engine only uses about 20-25% of its BTUs to move the vehicle, the rest is wasted as mostly heat. There’s a way to increase efficiency of burning fuel but that’s discussed in a different thread.

I’d be really happy if I could get 15 mpg while towing a 20’ trailer.

I was able to get 15 last weekend with my F350. But all I did was drive up and back to the cabin with just me and 2 dogs in the truck. There was 2 chain saws and a cooler of drink. But other than that the truck was empty. It’s really unusual for me not to pull a trailer up and not move the truck all weekend.

I probably could have gotten away with having a lightning Last weekend, it would even have had plenty of time to recharge for the trip home.

I’m not sure of my chances with this, since I’ve really never tried. I didn’t even know it was a thing.

I folded my mirrors once going down the road and reset mileage both ways, maintaining speed in a flat road.

It picked up .25 mpg, I remember correctly. Might have to try it again, been awhile.

With camera technology exterior mirrors aren’t needed. That would be a huge reduction in the worlds gasoline consumption just by reducing wind drag.

I sure don’t want to go back to tiny little mirrors on a full size pickup. I seldom have a need to extend them.

The mirrors don’t have much effect on the mpg on a HD 4wd drive with a large engine, low gears , 35” off road tires towing a tractor, camper or large boat.

I have seen my mileage go down just by replacing worn out tires with aggressive all terrain tires.

Sure you can do things to make a truck get better mileage. But you’re going to have to give up off road and towing capability. Which is why I have a truck instead of a compact car.
