The XUV 550 has no power steering and you don't need it.:thumbup1gif:

Here in D the 550 is sold with a B&S engine. This 14 kw engine will be also used in lawnmowers - try to find out, how long you can mow with a gallon :mocking:

I'm not saying to buy or not to buy , No PS. Wife bought a xuv550 4 seater 3 years ago. Up till Aug of this year always had a problem with it stalling and not running correctly. Aug of this year JD did pay for the dealer to check the engine , dealer found dirt in carb. When we took the Gator to dealer in Aug a oil film was also on the driver side of the engine,. Mechanic said the breather tube was off and that was causing the film. Well after 20-25hrs since it was repaired it has run great. Able 3-4 weeks ago we noticed engine oil on our driveway , but never noticed any where we park the Gator. So this past Thur. ran the Gator down the road apx 4-5 miles round trip and noticed oil up around the back seat and fuel tank. Oil was all up around under the back seat so Gator is back at the dealers .....

I'm sure things have changed since this one was made because we have had 3 or 4 items changed under warranty ,,not really recalls.

We have taken it on a few long rides . I'm guessing 15 miles and still had gas in the tank ,if I remember at least 1 maybe 1 1/2 gal .

Hope this helps.

For about the same money as the Gator I was looking real , real hard at the Honda 2 mos ago. This was before JD di fix the stalling problem.

JD and my dealer has always stepped up to the plate.

We have a 550 s4 that we bought new a couple of years ago, I want to say it is a 2013 model. IMO, the 550 is underpowered for the size of the machine. I also had problems with the transmission 3 different times and had to place it in the shop for repair. After doing some research I learned that the transmission shift problem was something that others have experienced. The shifter would get stuck and you could not shift it unless you shut it down. I have no issues with the dealer as they made the repairs under warranty and so far I have had no problems since the last repair about 6 months ago. As far as power steering, it would be really nice to have especially if you use it in the woods. If you are in open areas it is not much of a concern but if you are in small areas it is tough to turn. If I had to do it over again I would spend the extra $$ and buy the 825i S4. I am working on that one now, maybe one day:good2: As for fuel use, it does go through a tank pretty quickly. IMO, it is not a sipper when it comes to fuel use.

Just my .02, hope it helps

My XUV is a 2014 model. Never had probs w/ the engine or gear and the longest trip was 100 miles.

Is the XUV sold in the States w/ a B&S engine, too? It's a cheap and reliable engine...
