Sounds like a good reason to put fork slots under these things. I hate dragging one by handle....

I'm having trouble figuring out how folks are smashing their fingers on the handle.

Honda sells a lifting eye for their larger generators. I hook on with one of Kenny's oblong lifting straps any time I move mine.

The people who are amputating their fingers on the generator handle are probably the same ones that would use said generator indoors. It does not take a genius to see that you should not stick your fingers between a movable handle and it's mounting point, which looking at the photos is the only way I can see that an inDUHvidual could manage such a thing.

Remember these are the same people that brought you mufflers with the word HOT stamped into them, and packages of razor blades with CAUTION: SHARP BLADES printed on the labels. I believe my 60D mower deck even has an infographic on it that says not to stick your hands or feet under it. Brilliant! Lol some people should not reproduce.

I say let's get rid of the ambulance chasers then remove all the common sense warning labels. Only have warning labels for things that may not be obvious at first glance.

With the quality issues Generac has been battling with their machines, this sure can't help. Hope no one lost a finger while dragging it to the curb.

Funny but true.

I worked as a GC for 35+ years and we installed a number of generators but only two Generacs, both had a ridiculous amount of issues. The second one their service people came out and accused my electrician of sabotaging the internal wiring on the machine, I escorted him off the job and they sent someone else to finish fixing their mistakes. All companies have their issues over time but installing problematic emergency backup systems didn't make any sense for me. I will say once the problems were ironed out they gave years of service.

Hazard:
An unlocked handle can pinch consumers’ fingers against the generator frame when the generator is moved, posing finger amputation and crushing hazards.
----------------------------

The posters who mentioned moving the generator with forks. Where do you come up with this?

There is no mention of using forks to move the generator in the Hazard description.

More info:
CPSC said an unlocked handle can pinch consumers’ fingers against the generator frame when the generator is being moved. According to the report, Generac® has received eight reports of injuries, that resulted in seven fingers getting amputations and one finger being crushed.

More Info:
Users did not lock the handle in the upright position prior to moving. Fingers placed between the unlocked handle hinge point. User bumps the lowered handle against object and injury occurred.

Remedy:
Repair

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled portable generators, unless the locking pin has been inserted to secure the handle in place before and after moving the generator, and contact Generac for a free repair kit.

Ok, I admit. One time as a teenager, my rear muffler fell off my 69 Nova. And yes, I stopped, ran back and picked promptly it up with bare hands. Only to realize that sucker was really hot and dropped it back on the road. LOL.

Agreed. Darwin's theory falls apart when we don't let nature take it's course and we end up with a herd of dumbasses. We're almost there now. ☹
