Had a little bit of down time today, installed a Midland 5 watt mobile.
Had to make a bracket for the ghost antenna and the radio mount. Now the handhelds can stay with people on foot.
Now I have have dedicated coms plus NOAA weather.
A little wire work left to do, to dress things up.

IIRC GMRS uses frequencies in the UHF band. I know UHF antennas ain't that big but gosh that thing is tiny. How's the signal? What are you using it for?

The ghost antennas give us about 1/2 mile in the woods on a 5 watt radio. That is what I run in the tractor, the Gators also have ghost antennas and 15 watt radios we can get a couple miles. Truck with 15watt radio and 2 foot magnetic antenna have done 10 miles. But most of the time it's 20 yards between someone holding a handheld and someone in something motorized, so you don't have to stop idle down to talk, just tell them dump it here or move this. Old military and fire service habits die hard.
