Love, love, LOVE my x750.

I really like the way the 60HC deck cuts, but it scalps a bit on my acreage.

Thinking about going to a 54HC deck. Only 90 hours on my x750...

Do you think a dealer will swap me a 60 for a 54? Is there price difference between the two?

Thanks, Daubs

Yup.. And yur deck is used. So dont expect a swap swap no money for new deck. Maybe if they have a used deck.. Then maybe. And if/when ya go to trade.. Make sure yur deck is spotless. New blades.. No smuck on the deck or in the blade pockets.. Underside is spotless..

Then.. What the heck is a dealer gonna do with a used deck? Sit on it for who knows how long.. Then again.. There are dealers out there who would do it.. And we wonder why the mom and pops are falling by the wayside..

Is your lawn rough.Deck size won't matter if you wheels are in a low spot and the deck is hitting a high it's going to scalp. You can try to change mowing direction, mow a little higher or fill the low areas that are bad to level things out.

Thanks xcopterdoc: I was hoping of swapping my used for a used from dealer. Agree, why would a dealer want a used 60HC on their lot, likely no. I was hoping dealer would have a used x7-- with the 54HC they would consider swapping for my 60. Of course I'd need to spend some $$.

Yes TJR345, yard is pretty rough. I notice the scalping when I mow perpendicular to the small incline in the yard. When I mow straight up the incline, not so noticeable. But I can't mow the same direction every time -- not in my DNA : )

Is the 54 a drive over?? I priced a 7xx a month ago and it seemed to me you had to go to the 60 before it became drive over capable. I could be wrong, but if I remember correctly that was why I had the larger deck priced in the quote.

Just something to keep In Mind the 48inch deck for this year while Not a drive over deck it does now use the auto-connect. You Just roll it under the tractor then Proceed as though you had driven over the deck and it will connect as You drive forward.

I always found the 48inch deck mowed the Best of any of the Deere 3 Blade decks especially if you have a rough Yard. I would Just Buy a second deck then sell the 60HC on eBay or Craigslist or Have it Put On consignment at the dealers for sale Then it's at least out of Your way. Then when it sells You get payed :bigthumb:

I can't mow the same direction either. For those few spots i have either I mow that section one way and then just lift the deck as I go over that area mowing the different direction or use a push mower that time.

Yard is mostly flat, in this pic you can see the incline near the house.

The 54HC looks like a drive over deck...looks the same as my 60HC.

Good point! I did notice the left side of the mower the gauge wheels were set up higher than right side. I moved them down, but still see scalping.

And when I say "scalping" i'm not talking about down to ground/dirt.

It's worth going to a dealer and seeing if they have a used tractor with a deck that would work for you. They may not be willing to swap, but if you let them know you will swap if they get a buyer that wants a bigger deck, might be win-win for all parties involved.
You get a deck you want buyer gets a bigger deck, dealer makes a sale.

Couldn't stand being cooped up in the house any more...headed down to the shop today in 28 degree weather.

And noticed something...

The deck on the x750 is not level(!)

That is why I've been scalping the lawn. Never even thought to look before today.

Once it warms up, I'll level it out and see how the 60HC cuts.

I check mine at the start of every mowing season. I usually have soft/low tires from sitting all winter.

Yes, could reminder as I'll have to check tire pressure as well.
