My charge indicator light will go on and off intermittently while running. I checked the battery at WOT and I get 13.5 v and at the stator its 43.7 v AC . Its the same whether the light is on or off and also with the PTO and lights on. Any idea's on what's going on? Is the voltage at the battery a little low or is it normal? If I wiggle the key around some I can get the light to go out, but it will come back on intermittently after driving it.

I would check all of your grounds first, do you have the TM so your can trace the route of the charge voltage/current? It is either the charge circuit or the detection circuit that is having the issue. Ground is common thing to check first. You say wiggling key can fix for a while, so the contact in the key switch could be the issue.

There is a discharge module I believe on the right side of engine. About the diameter of a penny and about 1 inch tall. These will go bad and cause battery light to come on even though your charging system is good. Only other thing I have seen on your model is a bad battery. May crank and start fine but a bad cell will cause an amp draw enough to set off a battery light.

Thanks for the info, guys. I have an LX255 that is doing the same thing and another GT225 that is working good. I may try swapping the discharge sensor to the others and see if that does the trick.

The discharge sensor, depending on serial number on JD parts site is item number #22 for serial number 060001 or greater, item number #35 for serial number 0-060000. Part Number is AM126691 Sensor for all serial numbers.

Thanks. I'll try my known good one and see if that does the trick.

My 262 would do that and the 6 pin connector under the dash for the lights and other things had one of the slide in connectors get loose. I could wiggle the connector and the light would go out. I had to replace the connector.

I checked the LX255 with the voltmeter. The battery before starting had 12.1v. Fired it up and battery volts went up to 13.1v before settling at 12.98v. The stator was putting out 44.0 to 46.0v ac. I should probably charge and load test the battery to see what shape it is in. I was surprised how low the voltage was running at WOT. I still have to check the other GT225 that seems to be charging good.

The LX255 is our mowing tractor which always starts and never suffers from a low battery. Also never had the PTO quit while mowing.
