That depends...how much snow and how bid of any area? The big problem is the bucket fills quickly so you have to keep steering off to the side and dumping it, that may be OK for a small driveway or pad but it gets real old on a larger area.

This is my opinion, but FEL plows are no good for small tractors. I had one that I built and used for two season's and it was just a big PITA. The entire rig is too long, and you very quickly loose steering control with them. There is simply not enough weight on the front end to keep the wheels planted. Save your money and get a frame mounted plow.

I have the Deere 54 QH snow blade on a 1026R. I believe that it is all the tractor can handle. The maximum snow depth I have pushed with this setup is two inches. The blade is not heavy enough to provide a good scrape while in float mode. Therefore, I use the hydraulics to feather it up and down. While angled, the 54 QH blade will push the front end around. This phenomena really shows the value of a 2320's split breaking system. In my opinion, to put a snow plow out at twice the distance of the 54 QH would be unusable. My decision to buy the QH blade initially was based on getting the QH purchase outta the way so that I might find other front attachments used in the future. My thinking is that may be a few years before a 1000 series front QH becomes available on the used market.

For now, I'm using a 72" hand me down rear blade and the FEL to clear these pitiful snowfalls. Yes a 72" rear blade is too much for a 1000 series to handle. I'll be on the prowl for a 60" rear blade as soon as funds allow.

XSKIER,
Add 50-100 lbs (maybe more) to the blade it will make all the difference in the world. If you feel the front end being pushed, pick the blade up just a little this will add weight to the front of the tractor. Your problem is more common than one may think. In float mode the blade can't travel up and down fast enough.

1 1/2" thick by 5" tall cutting edge? :thumbup1gif:
If you have it laying around. But you may not need that much. You will probably need to play with it some. Just add weight, lift the blade to the top, put the control to float and watch how fast it falls, bet it's really slow. You need instant. Just another reason chain lift is so nice!

I live in central WI, so most snow falls are 2-8 inches with the ocasional 8-14 inch fall, and I have a large driveway approach, with large parking pad up top, so a lot of snow moving.......

with the fel can you still attach the deere weights to the front frame or even the 9 weight bracket at the same time?

will the frontier af11 fit on the 120 loader? or are the quick tach mounts wider on the 300,400,500 loaders?

Good info. Sounds like you would benefit better from a blower to me though...

Short answer=No, you can't. And I am not sure it would help much anyway.

Here is the main problem simplified: Due to the geometry of the loader and where the pivot point is (up high), whenever the plow meets resistance the front wheels will come off of the ground. You can see this for yourself by floating the loader and driving into a dirt pile...what happens to the front wheels? Basically the loader stops moving, but the rear wheels keep driving forward the the machine "fold" in the middle. Then there is the length issue, with a ballast box on the rear you are looking at a 20' long machine!

On a frame mounted plow the pivot point is very low so these problems do not exist. If FEL plows where the "magic bullet" you would see a lot more of them.

Yes, it technically will fit, the JDQA is the same. JD not not recommend it though. Then you need to add hydraulics to be able to angle the plow...add in another $500.

The 1026R is a great machine for its size, I have had mine since 09/2011 and have over 50hrs on it. I am looking for a plow solution for my 1026 also, there are plenty of plows out there that will work, some better than others but for me its all about $$$. For now I am using the FEL and my 60" box blade to plow 2 small parking lots and several drive way around here, the BB dose a ok job but looking back wards all the time gets old real fast. I do believe a frame mounted plow with angle like Gizmo2 has set up would be the best as others have told you already. Wish I lived close to some of the fabricating wizards on here like Kenny, Randy or Chris I have a idea for a ultra-lite weight snow pusher for these little tractors but not the equipment to build it.

Good luck in your search.

yeah same quest, My dad used a x728 with blade and blower, trying to come up with a cheaper solution...... that frontier AF 11 is not very cheap though!!! was thinking to use the fel in place of the blower but changing between the QH plow and H120 will be a pain in the butt? yes or no? like I said THINKING about a 1026R.....

Curtis FEL snow plow

Well I hope I don't regret this later, but I won the bid on this 5' Curtis plow, the price was a little higher than I wanted but didn't think I would find anything cheaper this winter. It may not be the best solution for a plow but it has to be better then the FEL bucket and looking backwards at the box blade.:flag_of_truce:
Anybody around Newberry IN want to make some $$$ and bring this thing to Hillsdale county MI? Let me know if you do.

Good luck! How are you going to control the angle?

Plus What I bought this for I could not but just the 54" JD plow 512.00(blade only), 510.00 for this curtis, if I go get it myself it will be 10hrs of driving and a 100.00 in gas so I will still be ahead of the game. Then come spring/summer if I don't like it I can do something different.

With the curl control.
Again...good luck.

If your curl cylinders have any leakdown at all that is going to be a problem.

What should I call the new thread? How to spend money on snow equipment when you have no snow....

Thank for the heads up on that, I hadn't considered that, so far it has not been a problem handling dirt or other heavy stuff. I'm sure the leverage will be different with the plow. We will have to wait and see, proboly won't get till next Wendsday unless something happens before that.

No that's no good, we all already know how to spend money, hell I spend money I don't have. Better come up with something different.
