I'm looking at 3 pt trailer hitches for my 1026 and think it's going to come down to either the Heavy Hitch or the OMNI Hitch. I know OMNI is one of our great supporters, so I'm not looking to create any friction, just looking for thoughts, opinions, experienced feedback, etc. with these two products.

Heavy Hitch Pros (from my perspective):
70# weight upgrade option

Heavy Hitch Cons:
Lack of the two holes in bottom tube for clevis hook, grab hooks, etc.
More expensive than the OMNI (not by much though)

OMNI Pros:
Less expensive than Heavy Hitch (not by much though)

OMNI Cons:
Has holes in bottom tube for clevis hook, grab hooks, etc.
Can't utilize anything greater than the 42# weights

I'm assuming that both are of equal strength since they are built out of 3/16" steel

That's a tough call...I think both are great products, so much so I built on myself copying them:laugh:

How a bout shipping? Seeing as one is on the East Coast and one on the West it may make a difference?

The 42/70 pound weight thing would not be a consideration for me-your 1026 does not need the 70's, so unless you had a free supply of 70's I don't think you need to worry about that. The 42's can be used on the front as well so they are a little more versatile.

I think you are a little wrong here!
Omni is in northern Minnesota, and Heavy Hitch is just about 200 miles away from them in western Wisconsin. I visited Heavy Hitch (is only a good 60 miles away from me), and talked with Greg (the owner). he showed me some of his current and future projects and I was very impressed with the craftsmanship and his understanding of quality work.

I was less impressed with some actions Omni tried to do to convince me not to buy Heavy Hitch products. Because of some missing ethics in Omni's business approach I decided to buy Heavy Hitch products!

I don't think you would go wrong with either product. I have the HH b/c I saw it on another forum. Had Omni been a supporter here when I purchased mine...it too would be a tough decision. I might suggest with whatever product you go with, you turn the weights the opposite. It really it easier when needing to get at the receiver (or hooks if you have them) when adding attachments.

Again, I think both products have their place. Best of luck with your decision.

Just to be sure you have all the facts correct:
Heavy Hitch is made of 3" X 3" X 3/16" (super upgrade) square tube which is included in the cost of the gooseneck hitch as well, the rest of the hitch is made of 3/8" plate steel. It is also powdercoated using a 4 step process involving aluminum oxide blast, an acid wash, baked on epoxy primer and a final powdercoat, a similar process to OEM. Shipping cost should be another consideration as well.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I appreciate it. I realize that both OMNI and HH make an incredible product and my intent is not to create any friction between the two product manufacturers. I'm happy that both are made in the USA and both vendors feel very strongly about their products!

Curious, what is the weight of the OMNI transformer and the HH (with super upgrade) respectively?

If the OMNI is 1/2" steel and the HH (with super upgrade) 3/16" & 3/8" steel, I would think the OMNI would weight more, correct?

Is the main tube of the HH (with super upgrade) the 3/16" steel and the lower portion 3/8" steel?

It sounds as if both products are pretty much indestructible regardless.

Sorry Greenman should have included the weight in my first post. The Transformer with the weight rack weighs 88lbs. Here are the dimensions of our components.

Main draw bar 1/2 x 3 x 3 hot rolled angle

Lower Link tabs 1/2 x 7 x 4 hot rolled angle (they wrap around the drawbar so all the pull is not on the welds)

Vertical receiver 3/16 x 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 tube with 3 x 3 x 1/4 reinforcing ring

Top Link tabs 3/8 x 2 1/2 hot rolled flat

Horizontal Receiver 3/16 x 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 tube with 3 x 3 x 1/4 reinforcing ring and 3/8 x 6 x 8 fish plate

Weight rack 3/8 x 6 hot rolled flat

all holes drilled with annular cutter bits

all corners and edges rounded and eased

all welds are MIG spray transfer process at 24.5 amps

Speeco Category One Lower Link Pins, Top Link Pin, 7/16" lynch Pins and a 5/8 x 3 bent trailer hitch pin are included. Category One quick hitch bushings are available for $22 for the three piece set. (two lower link and one toplink)

We had a contest where you could win a transformer hitch, not the same, but here are some pictures of it:

These are not great close ups, but here are some more from a user:

and here are some more showing the top mount for the hitch on the top bar and some other good pictures:

I vote for the Omni Transformer hitch, you can hang weights forward or rearward.

I bought the Heavy Hitch before I knew of the Omni hitch. I am very happy with it, had a great buying experience with HH. I have no reason to believe that had I known of both I would've made a different decision. I have had some conversations with the OMNI folks as well....let me just say, talk to both and decide for yourself.

Oh, and weights go both ways on the HH as well.

I had the same reason to go with the Heavy Hitch!
