Horsepower, torque and tractors

Sounds like the title of a good western doesn't it? Pilgrim.

Anyhow, given the crappy weather and the fact that my first grandchild is now 2 days overdue :)nunu:) I find myself with some time on my hands. Looking at all of these posts from the new 1026r owners got me curious so I checked the Deere site to read up on them. They look like a great unit which is what we are reading here. As I was reading the specs I saw that they are rated at 25.2 HP which is pretty much the same as my 2520 at 26.4. Where they appear to differ is in the torque and operating rpm. The 2520 has about 28% more at about 600 rpms less. Not being a mechanic, I find that a bit strange. I would have thought that Deere would have used the same motor.

Oh well, did I mention that I had too much time on hands.

The 2520 hydraulics also run at 2400 PSI instead of 2000 with about twice the GPM.
Yeah man I hear ya!

Many times I too sit and agonize over horsepower ratings. The 1026r and 2320 share the same engine displacement, the 2520 being slightly larger displacement. My uses involve heavy mowing on severe slopes, something my 425 could not handle. My needs demand the highest power to weight ratio available, and I think I have found it pretty well with the 1026r. My ideal machine would be a 2320 with 30 hp. I would have paid whatever they asked!
they are not the same engine the 1026r uses the same engine(TNV76) as the 2320 (but has slightly higher hp). the 2520 has more displacement (has a TNV84 engine)

I considered it, but the one I looked at had turfs, and it just looked too massive to mow my 1/2 acre yard. The physical size of the 2320 is just about the sweet spot for me. However, it felt kind of underpowered in a quick trip around the dealers lot.
Never looked at the 2320 specs before. So JD is using that motor in the 1026r. Makes sense.

Now I am off to see if I can get confused by something else.

Join the crowd. Always amazes me how much I think I know and don't.
