Taking Randy's suggestion and started a thread on this.
In the glowplug thread,I noticed my tractor serial # had the same numbers (40) after the letter H as Randy's. His is a 2008,and I thought mine was a 2009. I started to question the year when I saw this page in the loader operators manual. This is stating an even earlier model than 2008.:unknown:The fact that my 2520 definitely has a 40 amp alternator, which makes it no earlier than 2008,but going by what the manual states for cap color it is. Maybe JD wasn't all that critical with what color caps they used. If so,this is yet another example of how outdated and confusing their manuals are.
Does anyone have any insight on this?

Hey Greg,

I checked my hydraulic connections and I have Yellow in the upper left, Silver in the upper right, Black in the lower left, and Green in the lower right. Both of my machines are this way and they correspond to the decal on them.

I order my FEL seperatly and when it was delivered it wasn't a perfect match. I think I ended up replaceing a red with a silver to get all to come out right. Other than that all the other attachments, blower, brush, and the quick attaches were all perfect matches.

So to summerize, my connections are coded like the "Before DECEMBER 2007" link you provided. Not sure this helps alot.:unknown:

See if this helps as far as determining the year of your machine.
Deputy,

Thanks for the attachment. I think it does provide a little insight, but we would need all the codes and their descriptions to really get a good handle on it.:thumbup1gif:

Well, here is some more info along the same lines. May not help you guys but by comparing my serial number to the ones on this list I am able to verify that mine is a 2010 model and not a left over 2009. I ordered it Jan of 2010.
Deputy,
You are finding some very good info. How do we get our hands on that same kind of info. for our machines?

It's in the parts manual that I bought. Had purchased the tech manual and found it so useful that I thought the parts would be too. Wouldn't have thought about it except for the good advice I get reading these forums!!:thumbup1gif:

Now, I really don't want to start something here as this has that potential. I am just looking for knowledge. But Deputy, are those Deere manuals or are they another? I am prettey sure my Deere manuals on CD do not have this info. but will have to now check for sure.

Yup, Deere manuals bought and paid for on their web site. Got them on CD, besides half the cost I figure I can print what I need, write all over it or grease it up, and print another if needed. Would be easy to miss that info if you just jump to the page on the subject you are interested in. In my part manual this info is just a few "pages" in and accidentally found it by scrolling down from the beginning. Try that.

Just to clarify what Dep is saying, He got this from the Parts Catalog, it different from the Technical manual that you probably have.
