What is considered high hours for a riding mower?
Most I see for sale have around a 1000 give or take.

Depends on maintenance and how well it was care for. Also, certain engines last longer than others, so that comes into play. Things like air cooled versus liquid cool, gas versus diesel, lawn tractor versus garden tractor, etc. have to be considered and is a factor of longevity.

My 185 was bought new by my late father in law in 1990. It has a Kawasaki engine in it. He used that to mow his 2 acre lawn for 11 years until he passed. My mother in law used it for another 5 years until she upgraded to a GX335. I now use the 185 as a back up and to bag clippings with its power flow. I would guess (no hour meter) it has at least 1500 hours on it. It has had regular maintenance and been taken care of, but has needed no major work…knock on wood. So, as T-Mo was trying to point out, it's all relative.

Ditto to what T-Mo said ... depends on how it has been maintained and the type of motor. Just turned over 835 hours on my X320 today. Still runs great and uses no oil and hopefully I'll reach 1000 hours with out any major problems.

I have a JD265 that was bought new by my dad in 1990/91. Mowed 1.5acres of grass a week for 16yrs and then I had it mowing 1.5acres a week for 8yrs and it is still going strong. The hour meter says 650 on it but I don't know if it is accurate...that seems low. The only things I have done to it in that time were change the drive belt twice, mower belt twice, pto belt twice, put a new pto clutch on it, replace both from tires (the back are still good), replaced the muffler, and split the case to replace the case gasket. That's it other than the typical oil and filters.

That's very low hours for a 2000 445, if the hour meter is correct. Having said that, the 445 is made for longevity and durability. Liquid cooled Kawasaki engine, heavy duty garden tractor transmission, heavy duty frame, heavy duty deck, etc. So the machine is design to last, so now it comes down to how well it was maintain, how well was it care for, etc. Even the best design machine won't last long if it's abused.

Covered it all with this....

Check out the air filter, coolant, oil and trans/hydro fluidl, plugs, etc. if you can. Look for signs of contamination, water, dirt buildup etc.

If the above look as good as the outside, I'd give it a go.

If you decide not to buy it, I was wondering if you would mind sharing the add or contact info for the seller. I'm in the market for a low hours 445, but don't want to barge in on your deal if you're going through with it.
