Hi guys i have 5045E with a loader. now i want to add a log splitter. For obvious reasons i don't want to use buggy cords and all. I want to put a T in the power beyond line, and put a hydraulic quick connect right next to where my svc port is, but then where do i return the oil to ?

B - Excess Oil Return Line
C - Oil Return Line

Has anyone done this?
if so can u please show some pics?

Z, I'm on limited access right now, but you cannot Tee the PB line-all new valves must be added in series for them to work properly. Have you priced the Power Beyond kit for your tractor? It might be the most cost effective solution.

Log splitter.jpg Logging work.jpg

I have a cabbed 3320 with a 3 point log splitter. I've had my log splitter for about 8 or 10 years. It started out on my 1954 Ford NAA and the last 2 years it's been on my Deere 3320. Since you have the power beyond kit already my way may not be as cost efficient for you at the moment, but I do believe it is the better way to install it.

I just upgraded from a Prince 11 gallon per minute pump to a Chief 6.7 cu in, 21 gal per minute pump that goes on my PTO shaft. I just bought this in November at a cost of $344 including shipping. I was quite a good deal. I then bought a 5 gallon hydraulic tank that I mounted on my splitter. This is about $50.

What I like about this, is for me I didn't have to buy the power beyond kit which if memory serves me correct was costlier than the pump and tank I purchased. If I remember correctly, I believe the pump on a 3000 series Deere is around 8 - 10 gallons per minute? I don't believe the pump size changes much on the larger Deere tractors.

This 21 gallon per minute pump is much more powerful than what comes on a 3000 or 4000 series Deere. This means your ram will cycle much faster. With the external tank on my log splitter it's a little less worry about polluting the 7 or so gallons of oil in my tractor as well as getting anything in there to clog or damage the hydraulic components inside the tractor.

This works well for me so I thought I would share it with you as another option to hook up your log splitter, especially if you find your ram works to slow with the power beyond kit.

Most of the time a PB kit puts a set of hydraulic quick connectors on the back of the tractor with a loop hose connecting the two. The PB is used to power another hydraulic valve like one on a log splitter or a backhoe. A loader doesn't usually dictate the need for a PB kit.

Here's a 5045D PB kit parts diagram. There wasn't one shown/listed for a 5045E :unknown:

There are several hydraulic options listed for the 5045E listed on JD's website. Look under the compatible equipment tab. There isn't a PB kit listed, but there is a second rear SCV kit listed, LVB25771. If you can get the instructions for this kit, you could make your own PB kit using the hose locations used for the second SCV.

The Power Beyond Adapter kit is listed under JDParts as well. This could be the beginnings of a DIY PB kit too. The kit number is SJ290468 :thumbup1gif:

Please post pictures of the hoses and valve setup for us. Are the ports on the valve labeled?

Is this what your setup looks like:

A loader does not dictate whether you have a power beyond kit or not. If you have a back hoe you probably have a power beyond kit. The power beyond kit is an option you usually have to add separately. To hook up a 3 point log splitter you need the power beyond kit or you can go with what I did which is to buy a pump and mount it on your PTO. That's the most efficient and cost effective way to run the log splitter. As I explained previously, Chief 21 gal per minute PTO pump can be purchased at $344 which is cheaper than a power beyond kit and the PTO pump will be double the size, thus a much faster cycle time on your log splitter ram.

Here is the relevant page from the manual, it looks exactly like that. They call that think on the back power beyond, it has three plugs, bp, return, and access. and thats what goes to the loader selector valve. from here was my original thought to hook up to one of these lines.

power beyond 5045E

this diagram is exactly what my set up looks like. The three houses that come out of the adapter go to the loader.
