How to remove Pressed on Bearings....Help needed

1808 Views 6 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  coaltrain
I have a 3038E tractor that I am trying to change a front wheel seal. I got the hub apart but the bearings appear to be pressed on the axle shaft and the gear. The service manual says to disassemble the remaining components from the drive cover, clean and inspect. This would mean to remove the bearings. This would be necessary to permit reassembly.
I can't figure how to get the bearings off of the shafts especially the one with the gear.
Help is very much appreciated.
I would have taken the hub to the dealer but I wanted to get it back in service quickly. Looks like I may have to take it in pieces.

Without bearing and gear pullers or a press that will be difficult. I've made bearing pullers before for a couple of BMWs I had and 4wd trucks. If those bearings are good I would probably bypass pulling them. But that's just me. You stand a chance of damaging them and having to replace them anyway.

If they feel fine I'd leave them alone unless you need to access something behind them.

Removeing them is not going to be friendly to them.

I purchased the same above bearing puller kit last year and used it numerous times and for being cheap it has worked really well for me.

In the photo it looks like the seal he intends to replace is captured behind the bearing. Leaving the bearing in place is not an option.

Getting the bearing off with a puller will probably require destroying the seal but that shouldn't matter since you are replacing it.

Most any machine shop can do this for you. And they would rather you just bring the pieces and not the whole tractor!
