Hydraulic lines for grapple?

5920 Views 24 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  BOBL
Hi - newbie 1025r owner. Just passed 20 hours of fun making and cleaning up messes.

I’m looking to purchase a grapple and am leaning toward the Artillian, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I’m also leaning towards the single clamp.

I had the 3rd SCV installed at the dealer. So my question is, what additional hydraulic lines do I need if I order a single clamp grapple? Anything else I am missing?

Thanks!

Do you have the hoses and lines on the loader arm to the front?

Excellent choice. I have a single lid Artillian grapple on a 3039R and it is one of my most used and favorite attachments.

Look at the 50" grapple from CTA. its lightweight and I have had it for four years and love it.

Besides whatever grapple you decide on. (I chose the AV20F) you'll need a couple lines like these at the front. You'll need to leave a little room like you see here behind the slip couplers so they have room to slide. I watched the GWT vid and he mounted the bracket too close...Off camera he must have gone back and fixed it. You could also spend more money and do hard lines back to near your 3rd function...and use shorter soft lines to attach. I put some metal duct tape under my clamp to protect the paint but you could use anything under there. When I am sure that is where it is staying , I'll clean up some and paint it green.

The ends could be male or female depending on the ends of the Grapple you get. Most but not all Grapples come with hydro lines ready to be hooked up. If size is different then you'll need to adapt. You can check on that when you buy it.

I have a couple of grapples on my larger tractors and they are super mean and tough.....but I do have a Frontier AV20F for my 1025r.
One critical thing you must follow if you have the (smaller) Frontier Grapple is ALWAYS push or pull with it.....with the top jaw completely
open or completely closed, to avoid screwing something up. It is in BOLD print in my manual.
It was a learning curve for me as I am used to my beasts 50hp-100hp ( compared to my 1025 ) and never worried about over-loading the hydraulics.
I know all of us macho men (and tough-as-nails-women) have Diamond and Platinum Man Cards......but there is value in reading the manuals.
It won't make you a _, and I would much rather be a smartass than a dumbass.

I also own the AV20F, but had the JD 3rd SCV installed, that kit should provide all of the hoses all the way to the loader cross bar. 1 male, 1 female fitting.

If that is the case than the OP needs nothing. Unless the grapple he chooses doesn't come with lines.

276 LBS is too heavy for a 1025R.

Actually, the hoses are separate from the 3rd function SCV. The kit is BXX10268 and includes the 2 hoses and hardlines for the loader arm, and lists for $248.

From the first picture, it appears that there are two bundles of hoses to me. The line kit was my first thought as well.

I just picked my AV20F up today. Can you owners of this grapple tell me assuming we all have the same black and yellow. Or with the 3rd function Green and Red. Which connector did you use (On the grapple) for each color and if using the SCV which line opened and which line closed. I need to change a female to male at my front end and want to save some time. Or I guess I could make them both male on the grapple so I can swap them if I like it one way or the other.

I can not put it on till next week as in the process of exchanging my SP for the seal issue. In fact just got the email that they got my parts and will send out the new ones tomorrow.

The factory 3rd SCV is Green and Orange.

If diverting the curl and dump lines, Yellow is close/clamp, Black is open.

Thanks but which ones were used on the grapple? I think it has an upper and lower but no markings.

You know what I'll go look at the lines , the one at the top of the cylinder should close...so the other should open

Yellow extends (rear port on cylinder), Black retracts (front port)

I edited that had that reversed. I think I'll put another male on the grapple and than switch them if I do not like the way the scv works it.

Reading the manual now...
I have the AV20F with the Artillian diverter. I had to put a Male end on the grapple side and I use black and yellow.

Which way did you find most comfortable for opening the Grapple EVT, to the left or right?

No, just what you see in the pic
