I was mowing between my dump trailer & a car with my 3 week old X739. I made a sharp left turn to mow in front of the car. I forgot that the rear of a 4 wheel steer swings to the right when making a sharp left turn. The rear fender caught the front edge of the dump trailer bed & left about a foot long scratch in the right fender. I was lucky that it did not crease the metal.
I was able touch it up well enough that I know it is there, but most others will not see it.

First time I drove one to try out the back end whipped around felt like I was going to fly out the seat.When your use to the back wheels following the front and the aws the back takes a wider path it seems,it takes some getting use to.

It sure does take some getting used to. I do like it though.

Had one for 11 years and never did get used to it. Tractor moving left when making a right is why I hate'em. Wait till you get between something fragile and a classic car and one side is up against on one side and have to turn away from it but can't because of what is on the other side. The something fragile is part of the house patio and the owner of the classic car isn't home to move it. The front end of them tractors is the lightest part of the tractor but it's still very heavy. It's doable but your back won't like it. Yep, I was in that position and many more...many, many more. :banghead:

I know what you mean. The first JD garden tractor I owned was a 425 AWS. I got it into spots like that a couple of times. One time the only way I could get it out was to pull it sideways. The all wheel drive on the X739 does help, because the front wheels do not slide like they did on the 425.

Still have the little X304 and had a lot of time on the X495 diesel at the last property that was large enough to justify that 62 inch deck. Yes is takes awareness and some technique but the added maneuverability around trees and other obstacles and rarely needing to back up more than make up for it when mowing. I can easily see how using a snow blower or front blade with an AWS might get tedious, however...as using the load lifter and pallet forks did take a bit of path planning and extra caution as it stuck out the back quite a ways.
