Well, it happend! I figured Id share one of my DOH! moments. So, usually I back my tractor into the garage. While I back it in I repeatedly look to make sure I folded down the ROPS. Well today after a full day of yardwork, I had to pull it straight in. I had something in the way in the garage and my plan was to pull the tractor in forward this one time so I could raise the FEL over a crate that was in the was so I could close the door and deal with it in the morning. So I pull into the garage with a cool shower and a cold beer on my mind and BAAAAAAMMM!

I couldnt back it out as you can see the angle I was working with. I did the first thing that everyone does when you feel stupid, I looked around to see if anyone saw. I was in the clear. Uh-oh, is my wife home...no, whew! OK, now what. My first thought was to deflate the rear tires...nope, full of rimguard. Ah-ha! Pick the front end up with the FEL! That got me about an inch of clearance at the top so I could pull out the pins and fold down the ROPS.

So, I feel pretty stupid...be careful out there!:slap-yourself-emoti

Oh man....That had to hurt the old ego. Looks to be not too bad...so maybe it will buff out!

We have a guide (guy?) wire that comes off of a electric/telephone pole ,along our property, that I worry that either my wife or I will run under going full speed on the zero turn....instant flip backwards if that happens.
Thanks for sharing....it helps knowing that others screw up too.

It may have been a "Doh" moment but you redeemed yourself with the quick thinking solution to use the loader. :good2:

Im Hopeing that by sharing this with everyone, It will stick in my mind better so I wont do it again. Becides, who doesnt like a good f'up picture!

Looks like you were pretty fortunate. Could have done a lot more damage. Glad you didnt make it to the door and knock it off the tracks.

I did this too. Only I put a major kink in the overhead door. Like you I knew it would happen.

So now I have a rule - anytime I put up the ROPS I set a bucket or some object on the floor to block my entry to the garage. So if I forget, the bucket will remind me.

I've done it too...

I hit the brick work over my garage with my ROPs. DOH!!! :thumbsdown: Like JDDave, I too place something in my way preventing me from just driving the tractor straight in.:hi:

I think this is a right of passage for tractor owners. It going to happen to us all sooner or later. Just grin and try not to let it happen again.:drinks:

Not quite the same situation, but during a roof tear-off of my house I was using my 4310 loader bucket up high to catch the shingles as my friend shoveled them from the corner of the roof. It was close quarters with my detached garage, and yadda yadda yadda, I didn't hardly even notice as I tore off the corner of my garage's soffit/trim! Hopefully my new 1026R will be small enough my visibility will be better :laugh:
This has been an example of how hydraulics can be both forgiving to ones muscles, but also unforgiving -because they feel no pain!

Well I guess I am lucky that I ordered custom 7.5 ' doors when I built my new house. I didnt really need them at the time but I chose them for looks. 8" would put the trim around door right at soffit and 7' didn't look right. I didnt even know you could do 1/2' increments until I was hashing it out with the door guy.

I have a 15' x 24' slab for a tractor shed but havent got the extra funds to build it the way I want. Thats where the tractor will live eventually.

I havent clipped anything yet but I am sure I will. I know one thing. I have a double car door and a single car door. That single car door is NARROW for modern vehicles. Wish I had used a wider door, oh and a wider garage while I was at it. Deeper too, taller and added AC. LOL

I'm lucky that our garage door openings are tall enough to leave the ROPS up, but we do have some bikes hanging from a ceiling mounted hoist and I bang into them if I don't back into the garage just perfectly. Have to build a shed!

Also, had a scary moment this past weekend when cutting the crass for the first time. I'll post a thread later on my overall experiances, but this was the first time with the 60D mower and I was totally focused on cutting the grass. As I ran along the treeline behind the house all of a sudden, wham...something fell and hit me in the back of the neck. turned around and there was a large wooden bird feeder that was hanging from a pretty tall limb. I had totally forgotten about the ROPS and it pulled down the bird feeder right on me.

I dont get why the ROPS needs to be as high as it is on the 1026r. Most are used by home owners that have 7' doors.

I suppose if you draw a line from the front hood on tractor to the rops and see where your head falls in at you might see why.

I am guessing if you roll one upside down you want your head/neck protected.

I know when I looked to buy a 2210 (but ended up buying the 4310), the sales rep made a point of the fact that the Kubota ROPS was too short (at the time anyway). If the ROPS isn't tall enough to protect you in a rollover- might as well not have one. They do seem to vary a fair amount between brands- some are just way to short IMO.

I saw that in a green vs orange comparison video. Green, of course, was better than orange.

In the case of the 2520 I wondered about the same thing, why so tall. Later I found out that the height was needed when the backhoe was mounted. The operator sits that much higher.

JD recommends not using the seat belt when using the hoe on a 1-series, so the ROPS really does't serve much purpose for this use.

Maybe true, but the operator still has to clear his head. :mocking:
