Good day all. Well as the world turns i bought me a 1986 1450 4x4 with a loader and a rear blade. I am admitting fully that i dont know jack squat about this machine it came with a property on a steep hill the previous owner used to maintain the road and whatnot. I found this here site which looks packed with info so i figured id best join up and get learning. Thanks for reading this i hope your having a good day

edit. Well im starting off with a bang here. I was going to start a thread asking about attachments but i have no clue what class this machine is? Hopefully one of you can point me in the right direction so i dont make posts in silly places where they done belong. Much obliged

Welcome. Don't know the answer to your question, but I am sure someone will. Take it slow and learn as you go. I have been on a tractor most my life, I am 61, but there is a lot I still don't know. So much new stuff comes out all the time. I have owned several Fords and now a John Deere. I loved them all even though some were better than others. Best of luck and keep it safe.

Thanks for the info. Pretty good size machine for a compact i wouldnt have guessed that. My first real tractor yes but far from my first experience with steep terrain and 4x4 vehicles so hopefully i dont upset the thing. The driveway grade is pretty decent its the ruts the old fella made that i have to deal with. He parked his car at the top of the driveway and would use the tractor from that point in. I drove in with my truck no problem but there ain’t no way the mrs car is getting in there until i smooth things out. Its winter and snowy up here too so this will be a warmer weather adventure

Welcome to GTT. Got any pics of this rig? Did he leave some attatchments with it? Lots of experience on this site about how to tackle projects like rutty driveways and drainage. Stick around. We’ll get you sorted. And ask away. We don’t mind

Welcome to GTT. If you are new to diesel engines, make sure to add a specialized fuel treatment to the diesel fuel to make sure it tolerates the cold weather, doesn't have gell issues or cold flow problems. Pick a good diesel fuel treatment and use it year around. As an occasional use machine, its likely to sit a long time with the same fuel in its tank. That means possible water in the fuel, etc. A good diesel fuel treatment will stabilize and enhance the fuel and also separate water from the fuel.

Not only is the cold weather a concern, but you will want to make the diesel quality better with special lubricants and cetane enhancers in the fuel. Cetane is to diesel fuel what Octane is to gasoline (in a general sense) and the better the quality of fuel, the happier the machine and its owner / operator.

It's best to pick a good diesel fuel treatment and stick with it year around. Since some products vary in the way they work, its best to not mix and match them. Congrats on your new property and new machine.....

I prefer this product, but I am not sure about its availability in Canada.

Be safe on those hills, grades and slopes and remember the Golden Rule.......LOW and SLOW when carrying anything in the FEL, carry it as low as you can and go slow........and use 4wd if your machine has it.

Welcome from NW NJ. You definitely came to the right place. A LOT of knowledge here.
