While I was looking for something else, I ran across the original "purchase order" for Dad's 1958 720 diesel w/electric start. Just though some here might find it interesting!

He bought the tractor as a "leftover" on November 10th, 1959, came to town to order a 730D, but (in his words) "couldn't see any need to pay $800 for a bent steering shaft"!

(I'm quoting off the PO): 1 - John Deere 720D (new)power steering, live P.T., roll o-matic, float ride seat, electic start, #722xxxx-$4850
1 - #227 corn picker $2490
1 - #66#HS 446 plow 4 bottom $ 819
Sales tax $163.18
Total cash price $8322.18

He traded in: 1 - 1951 JD G tractor $2000
1 - 200 JD corn picker $242.18

He finished paying off the loan in four years!

I brought the "diesel" (as we called it) home a few years after he passed away, cleaned it up, painted it & took it to some area shows. Can't find a picture I have of it before repainting, but here it is afterwards: TRACTOR SHOWS 2006 081.jpg I also used it for parades: TRACTOR SHOWS 2008 084 (Small).jpg TRACTOR SHOWS 2008 106 (Custom).jpg and Christmas decoration: Picture 231a.jpg Picture 208a.jpg

I sold it in 2008 since I only started it 3-4 times/year: Picture 267 (Small).jpg

Nice story Lowell. Your Dad bit off a big chunk with that purchase. Sure is a nice tractor.

yeah I liked that mr. greenspot; not much has changed since then, because back then the implements was very high also. the cornpicker was half what the tractor price was. I think that pretty much stands today yet. just look at what snowblowers are going for. oh-and can't forget what jd wanted for a 1 bottom plow, almost fell over when salesman told me the price. I bought a u-know I'm having a front lobe brain something and can't remember name of it.. thanks big jim
