Hey guys, I thought I'd run this past this forum, as the knowledge here is awesome.

I pay off the 0%, 3 year loan on my 3720 in September of next year. As part of the loan, there is insurance coverage on the unit. What, if any insurance are you guys using for your tractors after it is fully paid for? What carrier would you recommend for coverage. I currently use State Farm for most of my insurance, but am open to other companies if the coverage is good.

With state farm, as long as you only use your tractor to maintain your property, it is covered under your homeowners insurance. Confirm that with your agent, but mine covers my lawn tractors and anything i use to maintain the property i live on. ( gator, rotary cutter, tiller, 4520, ect)

I got a little ding on my 4520, State Farm covered it.

The rules are very clear- on your property (not the road), not for commercial use ("Hey, I'll mow your field for twenty bucks). Note that if it's on a trailer on the road for any reason at all it's not covered.

Enclosing pictures so RandyM can have a nice day :mocking:.

Ok, so this begs the question, what if I want to drive it down the road to go do some free work for a friend of mine? What kind of coverage would I need? Also, if I did decide to mow someone's property for a fee, what would I need for coverage in that case? Thanks for any information you can share.

This varies from state to state and company to company. I suggest you call your agent and find out.

I have Allstate and it's pretty much the same as others have said about their policies...homeowner's policy covers the equipment used on my property.

In Canada our home owners policy declares exact amounts covered under various catagories. If you exceed a catagory then you declare specific items you want covered on separate policy rider(s). Cost is very reasonable and based on a set fee per $1,000 declared value. So I have my tractor and all attachments listed individually with make/model/serial number, set the declared value and pay the additional premium.

so what you guys are saying that your stuff is not covered if you have an accident hauling it to a dealer for service or home from the dealer. I use Everett Cash Mutual (spelling may be off) and I'm cover for anything but custom work but I also asked to make sure that I was.

Just a side note on State Farm homeowners. My agent indicated that coverage is based on the equipment's normal location being the same as the primary residence. We have farm acreage separate from the house property & the agent indicated our homeowner's would not cover equipment that was stored there. I haven't looked into Farm Bureau insurance but have heard that it is one of the common policies around here for farm property & equipment.

Just found this thread! We use Pioneer State Mutual, for the home owners, it covers anything in the shed including the tractor but not shed it self. We also bought a separate policy rider to cover it when I am driving the tractor on the road to go mow mama's yard, plow her snow or get fuel, Nothing commercial  I think it is about 40.00 per year. As far as trailering I don't know about tractors, but we use to work at a camp ground here in MI and a member's camper caught on fire and was destroyed. The camper had not been moved in years and did not even have a license plate on it and his car insurance covered it for him, he got more $$$ for it then he paid for it. So just saying check with your auto insurance about towing your tractor.

Hi there,
Some nut :) was driving my 4210, pulling a 8' tall deer stand base in reverse, and the skid hung on a root, causing the pipe frame stand to tilt, and a loose 2x4 on top to slide off.. Guess what, it hit the hood, bounced off the loader frame and broke an ugly chunk out of the side panel, and cracked the hood.. my $100 deductible paid off, and i got a new hood, decals, and got it fixed back like new..
Gotta have that insurance, and never pull in reverse, unless you a REAL careful and watching things very closely..

Live and learn, gotta love it.

When I had my home owner's policy with State Farm I was told that my tractors were covered as long as they stayed on the property. They were quite clear that there was no coverage if I was transporting the tractor for service or if I was doing any work outside my own property. Additionally, I was told that I was not covered for any public are use such as working in the right of way. Since I mow the ditch in front of my house and plow snow out to the highway I was told that this area is not covered but only on my own real estate. Needless to say I dumped State Farm as quickly as possible and found an agent who could write up a farm policy. Now I am covered while transporting the tractor and can perform custom work if I need to.

Shouldn't your auto insurance cover it on the road in your trailer? Also if you are taking it in for repair or maintenance, I would imagine that, that would be covered too?

My insurer Liberty Mutual, indicated that my tractor was covered even when I am doing the plowing for the neighborhood road (private property), as long as it is not being used for pay work, it is covered.

I have Indiana Insurance, I checked with my agent after reading this thread a few days ago. I was told the same as others. The tractor is covered as long as it is on my property, if I cross the street to plow a neighbors driveway for free, it is not covered.

Since I am self-employed I also have a business policy. I could not remember which policy I had my tractor covered by, but after some checking I found it was covered by the business policy. Under the business policy it has coverage anywhere it is.

I found this thread a while ago, and had to double check my coverage. I have Nationwise. My tractor is covered wherever it is as long as I am not making money with it. So next door neighbors in the woods, covered. On a trailer to the dealer or working at the campground, covered.

I guess it just all depends on the policy/company that you have.

Hmmm. I don't know. And that's not the state of mind you want when dealing with insurance. I did check and the dealer covers it if they are transporting the tractor.

Looks like I've got some reading to do in my spare time...:mocking:
