At around 60 hours the idler pulley on my 54HC deck is making a noise that can be heard above the drone of the mower deck. It seems to be be moving up and down excessively, which I can only assume is not a good thing for it to be doing. I’ve looked thru the threads and found that idler pulleys have given owners grief, but in those instances the decks had higher hours on them.
Has anyone had this issue in the past and have suggestions on what to check or a resolution for this problem before I venture off to the dealer?
Thanks.

Do you mean bouncing excessively in 5he direction it is made to or up and down in the direction it is not made to? I have a new x758 and just posted a couple of days ago with that question. Mine moves in the correct way but seems to bounce excessively compared to other mowers I have had. Seems to work fine but just doesn’t look right.

Is the bolt tight?

Could of also been an issue with the bearing when they assembled it.

It appears to be excessive in the up and down direction.

I plan to drop the deck some time today and check it out further. Movement from the idler pulley wouldn’t have been so noticeable if not for the annoying racket it makes while the mower deck is running.

Thanks guys for your input.

At only 60 hours I would have that deck right to the dealer to have them replace the pulley if it's loose.
I think you’re correct CJ. I think I will take it to them and see what they say.

I checked out the idler yesterday and found nothing, at least appearance wise, wrong with the setup. I did tighten the bolt holding the pulley ever so slightly and there is still about a strong sixteenth play up and down in the assembly. If it continues to annoy me then its time to go to the dealer for warranty work.

Thanks again guys for the input.

ETA: I just noticed that in Sunfox’s thread of his new machine there is a different idler assembly on his 54” deck. Hmmmm.:unknown:
