Since it seems I always have some kind of project going, have been thinking about a Jacobsen mower that's for sale. Or at least it was the last time I checked. Only problem is that it currently has three sets of reels on it.

The reels don't make it practical for my use, but I have entertained the idea of either building rotary mower decks to fit in place of the reels, or finding some that would fit. Maybe off another Jacobsen or some other brand.

This mower has hydraulic cylinders to raise the reels and hydraulic motors to spin them. Without having access to the engineering info, I don't have a clue if the current hydraulic cylinders and hydraulic motors could be used with the rotary mower decks. It has duals up front and a Perkins diesel engine.

Last time I asked the owner about a price, he wanted too much for it.

If I could get it for a reasonable price and make the necessary changes, it might be a cool project. I used to have a large Toro golf course mower. That thing was built like a tank. No plastic, just steel and rubber.

The attached pics are similar to what I have in mind.

The one I looked at may also be a model HR 15. They don't have much in the way of safety features.
But that isn't a concern.

Sounds like a fun project. I've looked at a few of the old Jacobsen machines. Is that one diesel or gas?

I want a Bolens Groundskeeper. I found one local that was for sale, but the owner never returned the couple of messages I left.

It' has a Perkins diesel. Not sure on the exact horsepower. Maybe 74. Will have to double check.

Scratch that idea. Owner already sold it. Just as well, since another entire machine probably would've had to be purchased just to get the decks and other parts.

And, it had been stored outside, which means it needed to be cleaned up and repainted, new seat, blah, blah, blah.
