I turned the tractor off yesterday to talk to someone, I did not even leave the seat. When I went to turn it back on it the starter engaged for a moment then stopped. The hour meter on the instrument panel is blank making me think this is an electrical problem. When I turn the key on the guages needles move so it seems there is power there. While I was troubleshooting a couple of times the hour meter was on. But when I turned the key to start nothing happened and the hour meter went blank again. The ignition switch has power to it and seems to be working.

HELP!!!

Will it jump start?
Maybe not the same tractor but our 2320 did just about the same thing. Running fine, turned it off, went to start it.. nothin. Replaced the battery.

I forgot to mention that the battery is good showing 12.7 volts at the starter and ignition switch...
That would be the easiest fix, so I checked that first...thanks for the quick reply!

A high resistance connection can and will do that very thing. It'll show full power at a terminal until a high current draw is needed. I'd check the battery connections first. Remove and clean the cable ends thoroughly and grease them after reinstallation. Then I'd move onto the ignition switch and start troubleshooting it.

A high resistance connection can and will do that very thing. It'll show full power at a terminal until a high current draw is needed. I'd check the battery connections first. Remove and clean the cable ends thoroughly and grease them after reinstallation. Then I'd move onto the ignition switch and start troubleshooting it.

Needs to check the voltage while trying to start the tractor first. Current Goes Up - Voltage Goes Down.

Absolutely correct. However, if you measure before a high resistance connection, you may not see a voltage drop. In this case, he might have a HR connection preventing said current increase (starter working).

Start at the battery first. Voltage drops like a rock, replace battery.

I had a similar issue when my 4720 was under warrantee. It took a while for it to be figured out but the swaged ground connection terminal at the battery had a problem that could not be found unless you were moving it (a lot) during the measurement. If it was not being moved everything checked out fine but no power to the starter.
