jd 212 no spark

I recently got a JD 212 it was sluggish starting but ran fine when it did . I Moses a couple times and it did fine. Last time kind of just died and wouldn't restart pulled the plug and no spark. Replaced condenser and points still no fire. Checked ohms across coil and getting 3.3 ohms , nothing from side terminal to middle. I know old car coils should read .75-.88 ohms side to side are these coils the same. Also will a universal 12v coil from TSC work they are half the price than one from JD dealer.
Thanks

I cant make out picture real well on my phone but it looks like it.
The middle terminal on the coil should read something to one terminal and nothing to the other. The outer terminals should also read with some resistance. So far, is this the case?

Coils can fail in a funny way. They can ohm out fine on the bench but run crappy or fail altogether especially when heated up after some use. Have you checked for 12v on the side terminal from the points? Check where the points are before measuring.

You never said (or I missed it). Do you have 12 volts to the coil on the (+) side?

Yes blow it up to see that's it.
Check from one side terminal to center nothing tried other side to middle nothing either
Go from plus side of coil to ground on the tractor. Just to make sure you are powering the coil.
I had the same problem with my john deere 214 had no spark If i were you i would replace the coil, condensor and get new points thats what i did and it ran like a champ btw check for wires that maybe been squished or the casing been cut shorting it out, it could also be the wire from the coil to the sparkplug if its not any of those bring it to a john deere dealership!:thumbup1gif: Ps the total for my coil, condensor and points and gasket came out around 90$

Looked at TSC they had a 12v coil for $30 John Deere wants $60 any difference?
Its a big difference its not named brand its cheap not like Kohler you have a chance with it I prefer buying a coil from John Deere cause you know its good its worth it
