Hi. I recently replaced the oil seal on the steering arm which goes through the clutch housing on my JD 2130. To do this I removed the steering column. I put everything back as it came off and I did not dismantle the column. Oil level is ok but now no hydraulics work at all. Please HELP. Jeff

Welcome to GTT
R&R of complete power steering control valve shouldn't affect operation of hyd's. Remove power steering supply line then install cap on line leading from frt pump. Then check operation of hyd's. Have you checked frt hyd pump coupler to be sure pump shaft is turning when engine crankshaft is turning?

Sounds typical for 1 or more of the 6 o-rings inside power steering housing has failed. These o-rings can be replaced by removing steering wheel then remove large nut then turn steering valve shaft CCW out of housing to expose the 6 o-rings. O-rings can be replaced with housing attached to tractor with the aid of a long o-ring pick & flashlight. If you tackle the task be sure to get each o-ring back in correct location. Do not disassemble steering shaft & valve bodies without noting component locations more especially shim locations.

Hi tx jim, have now done the 6- O rings in side the steering column also the centre shaft was taken to my John Deere dealer as there was some damage to the shims and also a retaining clip had broken so they stripped it and rebuilt it, back home now and refitted centre shaft, started up the tractor only to be disappointed still nothing works any other suggestions would be greatly reduced
Regards JEFF.

Ps, where in the world are you ?

Just because dealer reworked steering shaft & shims is no guarantee that repair was performed correctly. Correct shimming of the 2 operating valve assemblies is very important. I'll advise to block off power steering supply line again to see if hyd's operate correctly. Are you 100% sure you got all 6 o-rings in correct location in housing? Did you put oil on the o-rings before installing shaft with control valves. I live in Coyote Flats,Tx which is 30 miles south of Ft Worth.

Hi,yes I'm pretty sure all O-rings are in the correct place and yes put lots of oil on the seal's before assembly, and after not having hydraulics yet again we did bypass the column and the hydraulics worked as they should ,I do value any input from you as you seem to be very knowledgeable about my problems, once again HELP

If o-rings aren't damaged in PS housing then that leaves either incorrect shimming of 1 or both of the control valves or 1 or both of the valve assemblies are faulty. I was thinking the valves were identical but PC 4143 shows there's an upper & lower valve with different PN's.

Hi Jim,are the 3 ballbearings in the base of the column functional or are they just for blanking off the oil ports , because I have found one missing next to the inlet pipe and believe this may be the problem. The gasket doesn't cover the hole I think instead of the oil pressureusing the column it's leaking back into the clutch housing . ?

I don't see any ball bearings in 2130 power steering housing parts schematics so I think balls must block off drilling passageways. Yes open hole in steering housing is for a path for return oil to get back to trans housing(hyd sump)
