JD 2130 hydraulics died -- first steps?

Greetings All!

I have a 70s-era JD 2130 Euro version with Hi-Lo lever and hydrostatic FWD. No front loader.

Alas, my hydraulics have failed: no steering (can manually steer only when moving), no brakes (only temporarily work when pumped), and rockshaft arms don't rise. Otherwise, tractor drives fine (shifting, hi-low work).

I've changed the trans filter, sump screen, and oil. No change. That's about it for my knowledge of tractor hydraulics.

So, any advice on next steps for a newbie? How likely does the hydraulic pump need to be replaced or rebuilt? What are the other possibilities?

Welcome to GTT
Due to hyd Hi-lo operating then trans pump must be functioning. I suggest to check frt hyd pump drive coupler to be sure pump shaft turns when engine crankshaft turns. It's also possible that foreign material is keeping stroke control valve(keys 11-15) in frt pump from seating. On no brakes I suggest to bleed brake system by opening/closing bleeders on the top of each rear axle housing. Does your tractor's hyd pump have destroking screw(key 5)???

Thanks for your valuable advice! I'll take a look at those and post back here asap...
Hi Jim: No destroking screw on the hydr pump that I could see. It looks like #1 in your parts diagram. Can I replace the #1 nut with the destroking screw? Would you recommend doing that?

I ran out of time to check the rest but will let you know.

Thanks, LFP

Yes you can replace plug with the proper size DS screw for your tractor's pump size . JD no longer offers the kit but offers DS screw as individual parts
Hi Jim,

An update: I received the destroker and will install it shortly. I also ordered and received a hydraulic pressure gauge and hooked it up to my remote couplers. The result, unfortunately, was 0 PSI. I'm not sure if that's a helpful clue or not. Do you still think the problem is not the pump?

LFP2020,
Have you check the hydraulic pump drive, as Jim suggested?
Hi Jim,

. Do you still think the problem is not the pump?
Over the yrs many, many hyd pumps have been replaced only to determine that the replaced pump was not at fault IE pump was good. The key to repairing failed closed center hyd system such that your 2130 has is ""good diagnostics"" 1 step at a time. Remove hyd filter cover, rotate engine crankshaft with starter for 15 seconds & measure amount of oil in container. There should be 1-1.5 gallons.

My hydraulic died as well for some month ago. I tested and tested, step by step. Last step was to remove the hydraulic pump to check it. I then discovered that the drive connection between the pump and the crank pulley was broken. So check the drive.
