JD 40 Loader

I just bought a JD 40 loader including the mounting brackets in really nice shape. It was too good of a deal to walk away from, right place at the right time kind of thing.

Due to the work it would be to mount it on my X738 I'm not sure I'll go down that road.....but maybe!! I just may have to mock it up and see....

Pictures to come once I go back and pick it up this weekend.

It should Mount Up fairly simple as the Frame designs are really not that different the Issue could Be the fender deck on the Signature series I Know the 40 loader will mount to the Previous X400 thru X748 Back In the day I Looked at Buying a X465 due to the 45 Loader sub frame Interfering with cooling the air cooled engine . Deere at the time Told me the 40 loader would Mount right on the The X465. The frame design for the Signature series is Based On the Previous X465 thru X749 design (y)

Thank you for the info.

I’m hoping to have the loader and brackets home this weekend. But due to the coming rain it may way a couple more days.
It has arrived!!!

You should be able to just reverse all the lines, and add 90 degree fittings to the lines.

Then you just need a THRV, and release handle.

What is a THRV? There is a release handle on the right side of the loader, is that the handle you are referring to?

No it’s a transmission over pressure valve, so the valve opens before the ring gear disintegrates.

You need a new release handle because it’s much taller then the original towing release valve it replaces.

An x has a different transaxle, so the valve and handle from a 445 wouldn’t fit even if you had them.

Here are the Parts You Need for Your Tractor
BW15044 TRANSAXLE HYDROSTATIC RELIEF VALVE 4WD or AWD John Deere Transaxle Hydrostatic Relief Valve - BW15044
M146148 free-wheeling valve control lever is also required. 2WD or 4WD & AWD John Deere Free-Wheeling Valve Control Lever - M146148
BW15044 was superseded By AM122228 which cost about $220 plus and that was superseded by MIA884868 which is about $500 But all of them are the exact same Valve Made By Tuff-Torq
The Valve Protects your transmission from pressure peaks associated with use of the Loader the new Hydro release lever is needed because new Valve is taller But Go with the BW15044 as it just cost less and is still available for purchase (y)

I really appreciate the help on this!! It's not as much work as I was expecting to make this loader fit my machine. I think I will pursue making it happen. I'll get those parts on order!!
Are there any write ups or tips on swapping the valve and lever?
