The color coding is not consistent throughout this 1982 JD 400. Mostly black wire is spliced in at various locations.
To start, I am looking into replacing the burnt headlight wiring and bulbs.
What is the wire gauge in this headlight harness?

In fact, what is the general wire gauge throughout the JD 400? A guess would be 14 AWG.
Wrong . . . after using a wire stripper gauge on one of the non-terminated older 1982 wires, the gauge is AWG 16-stranded. Boy was it difficult to remove the insulation on such old wire; they have lost their flexibility like they have calcified.
