have a 1997 john deere 425 and just did the plastic cam gear replacement and after completing, the oil pressure light flickers at low idle. I replaced the cam gear with a metal gear, new waterpump, tappets, push rods, new oil seals, govern gear, metal oil pump gear and all new gaskets. The tractor runs good other than that. No problems with cam gear replacement. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Welcome from Lancaster, PA. I'm sure someone will come along soon that knows a bit more about your rig and can help.

I would start with the basics if you have not already done so. Oil level, loose wire on sending unit, or bad sending unit. I did the same cam swap as you on my old 445. Couldn't beleive how easy those engines are to work on. My father-in-law still uses it with no issues.

thanks for responding. I ordered the oil pressure switch and should be in this week. I cut the grass today and ran great. Will install new switch to try that. Will post with results. Thanks again.

Problem resolved. It was the oil pump. Replaced and all is working great. No more oil pressure light, just on start up. Should have done this in the first place.
