Welcome to GTT Joe!

Is this a new happening or always been this way? All of our larger Deere's run at about 3/4 to the red.

To make sure things are ok, you could blow our the radiator and make sure weeds and other items have not plugged it. Check the coolant to see if its full. Check to see if its time for a coolant change or flush. Next would be to check the thermostat.

Could you give us some more info on your tractor. The year, hours and maintenance? it will help greatly.

I would suspect that its normal to run where it is running. Most do.

On regards to the joystick. Can you see the balls or linkage? Is it dirty, rusty or need some lube?

Pending how hard of a life it had and if it sat outside its whole life with this exposed, it might need some penetrating oil to get it moving again.

Those gauges are typically not that accurate, and since its used you really have no baseline to go by. I would buy or borrow a infrared thermometer and check what the temperature really is. Fluid Film will do wonders on your joystick and all other linkages.

I have a 5210 with the same engine, just not a turbo. I have ran it for hours on some hot days and the temp gauge only went to the center of the gauge. As already suggested, I would flush the radiator and put new coolant in and use distilled water and replace the thermostat. I have included the URL for JD parts if you do not have it. JD does have radiator test kit ty16175. Make sure the ground on tractor battery is good. Temperature sender is a variable resistor that responds to changes in coolant temperature. Low coolant temperatures cause high resistance. High temperatures cause low resistance. The point is a bad ground can cause the gauge not to work right.
