JD 70A loader Hydraulic hose fittings

2929 Views 11 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Zebrafive
My JD 770 with 70A FEL is in need of a few hydraulic hoses. The tractor is 125 miles away and I need to know what size the mpt fittings are. I am guessing 3/8". Anyone know for sure? Hate to get the wrong ones.
Thanks

Pretty sure they won't be NPT, JD uses a lot of ORB and ORFS fittings.
They have O rings and I'm thinking the fittings use metric wrenches.

Been a bit since I changed some.

Have some old hoses in shop and the loader down at barn.

What do you need measured or pictured specificly...I'll try and help??

Think you guys are right. I rebuilt the cylinders a few years ago, and now remember the fittings had an o-ring that seated into a recess when tightened. Don't remember using a metric wrench to remove the hoses. Hate to see what factory replacement hoses run....
I've had all mine made locally at either NAPA or the Forklift shop here in town.

All the ones I've replaced were on the curl cyl/front of loader arms on top side.
One loosened and I just had to put on a new O ring.
Yep, the top curl two are the ones that are starting to look bad. I may have to bring one back with me to have a couple made locally. Thanks
I know this being an older thread but I need to change some hoses on my #70 Loader, they are dry rotted and one is leaking.
I already replaced the O-rings on the couplings but having a hard time figuring out the threads JD uses on the the ends of the hose. The JD770 tractor is made by Yanmar of Japan, so I'm wondering if the fittings are metric or BSPP threads? Any ideas? I don't want to but hoses from JD dealer as they want $70 per hose and I need 8 of them.
The fittings fit both 9/16-18 and M14x1.5 thread gauge but I don't think it is either one.

Loader is a 70A...used on some gear drives like yours and the Hydro drives 855 ,955..Deere built.
Maybe/probly some others.
As stated up several posts...I've had luck at Napa or The local Forklift shop is set up to build hoses.
They have both always had the fitings on hand....whatever they are is somewhat common.

The loaders weren't made in Japan, they should be ORFS fittings. Take the old ones to a hydro shop and they can duplicate them.

After doing a little research and looking at the hose fittings a little closer, I was able to determine the actual type JD uses for these hoses. They are, without a doubt, ORB (O-Ring Boss) type 1/4" (Dash Size -04) at the cylinders and 3/8" (Dash Size -06) at the Couplings.
I'll take one to NAPA and get a price but may just order my hoses from DiscountHydraulicHose.com for less than half the cost JD charges. NAPA stores around me are a dying breed.
