I have a 1953 40 it has a hour meter on it. It does not work does anyone know anything about them? Any help would be appreciated.

If it is original (period specific) it is called a Hobbs hour meter. I think you might find some info on them in GM IIRC. I think another member here has one on his 50.

If it looks like this it's a Hobbs meter. They seem to be mechanical as you can hear it tick after the power is turned off. It's really kind of a neat option in 1955.

It looks like that but it is mounted in the dash. From what you say it was a option in 55. Does that mean someone added it to my 53. I wanted to make it all original.

It is in the JD parts book, mine has one also. '53 40T
It runs off a oil pressure switch with two wires by the filter, I assume it completes the ground circuit.
