Hey guys I have an issue with my John Deere 4010 compact tractor with a 410 loader when I curl the bucket all the way up then put the bucket down on an angle to lift the front wheels off the ground the bucket just curls in but if I dump it all the way and then put the bucket on the ground to the lift the wheels off the ground it lifts the wheel off the ground no problem so I’m lost I rebuilt all 4 loader cylinders and swapped the hoses for the bucket so the lift up/down is curl/dump now and visa versa. And it still does the same thing wtf lol

Did you cycle it several times to get the air worked out?

I put a gauge on it too and I’m getting like 2400 psi’s so I’m pretty sure pressure it good. I did notice when I would dump the bucket it was more floppy when swinging Down to dump after rebuilding that seems smoother now but when I’m dumping it has about a 3 second delay to hit the prv but in other directions it hits the prv quicker. Not sure if that means anything I read some people out a reducing orifice washer on the return like whem dumping the bucket swings down faster then the pump can supply fluid to the cylinder and causes a vacuum leak somehow ?? Idk 🤷‍♂️ I made a video but can’t figure out how to post it here??

GTT doesn't support video hosting.
If you have an external service like youtube, you can post a link to share in the discussion.

Unplug your couplers and make sure they a sealing good then cycle. Sounds like flow problem or still have some air

Are you familiar with the 'regen' function of the loader valve?

I don't think the loader has enough travel to lift the wheels with the bucket curled back. Is this something your loader would do before you built the cylinders?

Can you guys spot the mistake in the factory John Deere compact 4010 operators manual ? Not sure how silver became red ? But regardless looking at the photo I think this has a regen dump operation even though the manual doesn’t mention it at all. It shows the bucket dumping not sure if that’s just to show the dump position or if it has two positions like some have mentioned on here.

I can assure you that there IS a region position, you just won't really feel it like you do the float on the DOWN side of the valve.

I owned a 4110 for 12 years, the 4100 is virtually the same machine.

There is a mechanical lockout on the linkage, I can just you some pics later of it.

I am going to try an isolate the issue between the tractor and loader even if it has a regen it shouldn’t be spongy after a full curl and then go and try to lift the wheels off the ground from what I read on how the regen works it supplies equal pressure to each side of the cylinders but the weight in the bucket pulls it down but by supplying pressure on the dump and curl sides it stops any cavitation from happening but I’m still trying to figure this out so I’m not a 100% sure if you can post pics of the regen lockout that would great thanks

My 4310 has this and also gets the floppy bucket but my lockout lever won't move from the top position.

I think this is the regen lock out Ken is referring to.

So today I ran the tractor a little bit and this is what I found it I curl even a few inches then push down to lift wheels it collapses if I dump a few inches then push down it lifts the wheels off the ground every time no problem I called the dealer and they said check fluid level because I told him the level was in the middle of the low and full mark so I’m going to mess with it tomorrow a little more.

So from what I’ve been reading I have the same symptoms as Floppy Bucket Syndrome so has anyone found a cure for this problem I read some people have put a reducing orifice washer or adjustable flow valve on the rod side fitting of the cylinder so it slows the flow when dumping the bucket and reduces the chance of creating a vacuum and sucking air into the base side of the cylinder???

For reference sake I just tested the 420 loader on my 4310 and could not duplicate the situation you are experiencing. Mine will lift the tractor no matter which direction I curl it from. I have generic 2x18 Magister cylinders installed for lift and curl.

I have on occasion experienced the floppy bucket and when I do I cycle the bucket all the way through it's motion a couple of times and that seems to make it stop. Sometimes if it goes limp while I am attempting to back drag I will just push the lever to the right a little and force it back down.

It's a mystery why mine goes limp sometimes and other times not. My tractor has the regen lockout lever I posted a picture of but it is frozen and won't move out of position C.

Yeah I ran mine today again and it only gets floppy where it collapses trying to lift the wheels off the ground if I roll the bucket to the curl position for a few inches or more but if I go to dump for decent amount of travel then come back to like 45 degrees it stiffens up and lifts the wheels off the ground every time. I read either a small orifice washer or adjustable flow valve on the rod side will help with it and I read about the pump not having enough flow when dumping but for the amount of money to replace the pump I can live with it
