I'm sure several people here have tried many things when replacing the seat on their 4x5 models. What are the seat options you have tried and what do you like/dislike about it?

Replaced 445 seat with OEM John Deere. The original lasted 18 or 19 years. If this one goes that long I am good with it.

Does the 445 come with the high back seat? Is it pretty comfortable? My seat time is normally 2-3 hrs of mowing in a stretch.

I can look it up tonight, but it should be the same seat as the 425 and 455. It is comfortable.

The 425 has a different seat than the 445/455, the 425 seat has a shorter back , the seat for the 445/455 will fit the 425 and is more comfortable.

I just checked JD Parts before I signed in tonight and you are right. I believe there are also two different seats for the 425. The high back seat may fit if the 425 seat uses a long pin to hold it at the front. If you want, I will measure mine tomorrow.

That would be great thank you. My mower does have the long pin across the front, do they make the seat you have with arm rests?

Just replaced the seat and suspension on my 425 a few months back. Used x series parts. The whole setup was right at $300 and worth every penny.

AM142094 seat
AM134254 suspension assy
M144705 spring locking pin
M119978 pin fastener
24M7028 washer
AM131968 seat switch (turns out the one from my 425 looks and works identical to this one so I have got a spare)

I took off the rear fender so I could take of the old slide assembly. The old slide has the bolts built into them so I had to pickup some new bolts to attach the new suspension. The holes in the rear fender lined up perfectly with the new suspension.

Turns out that the wiring harness was not quite long enough to route it like what this suspension is designed for. I ended up making a couple of extensions out of some 14 awg wire I had and disconnect pairs.

All I can say is I wish I would have done this sooner. It is a night and day difference between this setup and the original one.

The year of made will determine whether you can use a high back seat or not. I bought a compatible aftermarket for $85. It's low back because I had an older 425. Seems to be OK. But, I put it on and then sold the tractor. So can't speak for long term comfort. Never cut with it. The new Xseries are nicer, except for the seat switch. The new seat switch is a PITA. Lean off the seat just a little to duck around branches and the thing kicks off the mower deck.

You could also cob on a suspension seat off a zero turn like the previous owner of my 455 did. It looks odd but is very comfy.

I didn't get to measure yet, but the 425, serial number 070001 and up uses the same pivot pin as the 445 and 455. So, if your serial number is about 070001 and up, the high back seat should fit. Serial number up to 070000 uses two carriage bolts.
