something else that needs to be done (clearance considerations) or is it just a simple bolt on? I picked up a set of tires/wheels off of Craigslist from a 455 for a great price ($50.00) and didn't notice until the next morning (deal was done in the dark with flashlights) that the tires are the larger diameter 26" style. The first thing that comes to mind is the chains that I have for the 23 inch tires aren't going to fit , but which is the better plowing tire anyways, the 26 or the 23.? They are both turf tires. Any thoughts on this? Thanks, Paul

They should be fine but try them on and have a look. You will need to re-level your mower deck for sure. I am running 26s on the 425 that I have and there aren't any issues even with chains on it. I don't know if they added clearance to the fender cut out in the later years and the early ones were smaller.

26" were an option for the 425's. Dad put 26" on his with out any issues at all. I don't think he ever leveled his deck however; id suggest it though. The 18 X 8.50 - 8 front tires with it would be the preferred way.

I don't know if they were available on the earlier ones and I have heard that the rear fenders on the early models don't have a large enough opening. Try em on and have a look.:unknown:

Techie;

From my operator's manual, for serial No. 010001 -------, page 108; overall height dimensions
-425 with 26" tires is 47.5".
-445 with 26" tires is 51.5".
I believe the height difference is the seat suspension.
Tire pressures are 5-10psi for 23's and 26's also.

My 425 is a 1998 model if that has any bearing on anything.

I also got the front wheels and tires as well, and they are in fact the larger 18 X 8.50 - 8 size. Unfortunately the fronts are almost bald, so I ordered a new pair today :18x8 50 8 Wanda Turf Tire Lawn Mower Garden Tractor Tire 1 5032 | eBay Not sure of the quality, but they are 4 ply and the price is right. I'll try fitting on the 26" inch tires this weekend. I'll report back as to how they fit. Thanks, Paul
