Well...I was trying to figure out what this squealing noise was coming from on my John Deere 430 and I think its the belt that goes around the water pump and alternator. The pulley on the alternator turns freely so that's a sign that the belt is loose and is slipping. Does anyone know the part number for that belt and I'm hearing it's a tough job to replace. Is it also good to go ahead and replace the water pump to while everything is already torn down?

I would go to napa and buy a link belt unless you really want a project. I bought a tractor with one and it worked great.

Oh ok! That's is definitely good to know. You wouldn't happen to know the correct size of belt...length and width.

Just run a string around it and measure the width at the top of the pulleys. It’s 3/8” or 1/2”, and you will want a couple extra links above the string length.

I didn’t look it up on JDparts because this is belt that jdparts has an error on for many similar models, and I don’t recall the correct one to know if the 430 listing is right or wrong.

Do you happen to know if that actually fits? The listing for a 455 does not, and there was recently a post about another yanmar of the same generation that also had the wrong belt listed.

No, but I might try and measure the old one, or a rope, or use a link belt to determine if one of them is close.

Of course if the part number on the back of the old belt can still be read...

(Bought a 400 hour 430 and ran it for many years, but never had to change that belt.)
