John Deere 5075e 4WD giving engine trouble indicators while mowing!

I have a 2018 JD 5075e, I just bought it used but it only has 49 hours on it. I bought a brand new Bush Hog 3308 8ft 2 spindle rotary mower. The very first time I used the tractor with the new mower it is continuously giving me the “stop” and the engine malfunction indicators. I turn the PTO off and the engine builds back up the RPM’s and the indicators go away. The blades on the bush hog seem to spin freely and I was mowing grass in a pasture nothing that should be bogging this tractor down. It honestly feels like it doesn’t have the power to run this mower but I did a lot of research and everything I found and everyone I talked with said this tractor is more than enough to run this mower. Any help would be appreciated!

The “STOP” symbol is usually accompanied by a code or DTC that appears in the hour meter window on your instrument cluster. There should be a switch on your instrument cluster that allows you to pull up codes on 5e series. I am certain this procedure is in the owners manual. Every code has a different number, and sometimes you can google it or someone on this forum can help. The DTC will tell you why the STOP indicator is coming up.

Are you running normal PTO mode? Sounds like E-PTO is turned on

Thanks I will check that out, I read where it should give me a code as well but I couldn’t find where. The guy I bought the tractor from lost the manual. I ordered a manual last night.

Not sure, this tractor is far more advanced than any tractor I have ever had, I will check that. Thanks for the info.
Being in economy PTO shouldn't make any difference. I've had EPTO since 2000 and never taken any of my tractors out of that mode and I run a 20' finish mower as well as a 10' flail mulcher. He has some other issue.

I suspect your tractor has economy PTO. Should be a yellow lever behind or beside the seat maybe.

My tractor has a roll toggle switch on the dash that you use to scroll through any codes it throws.

I will check the codes this afternoon. After posting this yesterday I went back out and mowed a little more. Almost immediately the tractor started the ReGen process and after that was completed it did do better but still when I would hit a fairly thick patch of grass even in the A-1 gear it still would do the same thing.
Thanks

FWIW.... I have had a couple issues like this on a 5e and a 4m series. Both were resolved by a dealer ECU reflash. Unfortunately with JD’s proprietary engine management systems you can’t go anywhere else to resolve the problem....for now. Mine were both under warranty.... just the nuisance of loading on a trailer and hauling 60 miles. That being said, a 2018 should have some remaining power train and federally mandated emissions warranties. That is also in the manual. So if all else fails have a dealer look at it. The code should be stored and retrieveable. It may be nothing more than a computer software issue.

8ft cutter, 60pto hp, and very thick grass,,,,you may not have a serious issue. Could be as simple as fuel filter, cutting too short, or material building up under cutter.

I’ve seen a 7’ cutter stop a 4020 in its track with some overgrown grasses we get here in the deep south. July and August first cuts of the year can be tough to cut. You have too much mower for that tractor under some conditions. 37 people will tell you they pull a batwing with smaller machines and I dont doubt em but in less than ideal conditions they cannot do it.

I stopped by my dealer yesterday and their head mechanic recommended me changing the fuel filter and checking the screen in the fuel tank. I’ll try that and then if that doesn’t help they are going to send a tech by. You very well may be correct though because in other applications that I have used the tractor it has ran fine. Thanks a lot

I have a MX-8 behind my 5075e. I have run in epto many times, and I have never had your issue. I have over 800hrs on mine, but it is a 2014 I believe.

Check your seat safety and pto speed sensor wiring at their connector.
I've had same problem and re-seating connection fixed it.
Cheers, Mac
