With that belt part number, you must have the 34 deck (the 30 inch deck was also offered with the 68 rider). Here is the diagram from JD Parts.

I have an old John Deere 68 rear engine mower and the deck belt blew apart. I am trying to find instructions on how to install a new m49920 belt with no luck. Please help!!!

Do you know what belt will fit the 68 mower with a 30 inch deck? I've trying finding it on the internet and have had much luck.30 or 34 inch deck?
The mower drive belt should be M82538 $20.60
The traction drive belt should be M82167 $15.61
If your dealer doesn't have them in stock, they should be able to order them for you.

It might sound like a dumb question but what's the difference between a mower belt and traction belt?
The mower belt drives the mower deck, the traction belt drives the transmission.
That's what I thought but wanted to double check. Thanks for the info!
