^%$&* John Deere - problem RESOLVED

3874 Views 23 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  BOBL
Started to assemble my single point hydraulics connector today. I open the box and ALL of the small parts are thrown into the box loose. A quick inventory finds that I am missing 4ea. quick disconnects, 3ea. nuts for the bracket bolts, and the smaller bolts and nuts. I've sent an email to my dealer, and I'm sure I can use connectors from the hoses I remove, and buy nuts at the hardware store, but the point is an item that costs over $600 should be more carefully inventoried and packed. I'm used to premium parts and service from Deere, and this falls way short of my expectations.

I would be taking that back, those fittings aren't cheap

I agree. I would simply return it and have them give you a replacement kit.

It shipped from my dealer, so I'll wait and see what he want's to do. They'll probably ship me the rest of the parts overnight, but now I'm half way into the installation and don't want to start over.

That is not how mine arrived. Everything was neatly packed in sealed bags. Even the hoses. Nothing was without its own internal packaging. Perhaps yours is a returned package, or otherwise had been opened up by someone and the box re-sealed. Mine was ordered from GreenFarmParts, but It was drop shipped from a Deere parts warehouse.

Sounds like he was shipped a package someone else already returned. I have NEVER bought anything from Deere which had hardware included that wasn't in plastic bags.......

And the kit with missing parts gets back into the cycle.......

A bit off topic, but this is why I never buy the first item off the shelf at the big box stores. The returned defective items that are restocked are typically put in the front. Last thing I bought from the front of a shelf was a Siemens circuit breaker, which was DOA. I suspect the buyer of a new one simply cleaned up and returned his old one for a refund.

That would be the fault of the dealer if he chooses to put it back on the shelf without correcting the problem.

Agree. You really have to be careful at the big box stores, especially in the plumbing and electrical sections. I can't tell you how many packages I've picked up only to find they are re-taped, re-sealed, re-stapled, etc. I understand they probably need to put those returns back on the shelf but in many cases they do a poor job of checking the return and it's my choice as a customer not to purchase an open-box item.

I have seen someone return motor oil jug filled with water back to walmart for a refund. 😱. It went back on the shelf. Gotta check for the factory seal under the lid now.

Wonder if you got a return mine was all packaged nicely inside All of the fittings were boxed, the obly thing loose were the hydraulic lines, casting edge protector, and the casting.

I'd return it too and get a replacement. Then if picking up at the dealer, open the box right at the counter to make sure all the inner packages are intact. Then take an inventory at home before starting the job.

Unfortunately the OP had started the job, so I guess return may not be easy.

Maybe a little off-topic too ... (sorry)
Last time I got a bad switch light switch from the box store, I returned it with "DEFECTIVE" written all over the outer box. I don't remember if I had written that on the switch itself. I didn't want to get it back the next time I needed another one, or anyone else buying it as I assumed it would go right back on the shelves. This way it would go back the manufacturer or in the trash. The associate looked at me when I returned it and said "you didn't have to do that" referring to my creative labeling.

Speaking of buying items (especially electrical) from box stores, I always look for a factory sealed box. If no seal, I open the box and check inside to make sure it is the correct part. Countless times, I find a less expensive part inside a box for a more expensive part. Complaining to staff doesn't really help, it's usually a waste of my time as I get a blank stare, so I find what I want and go.

OK back on topic.

I hope the dealer comes through and quickly. Nothing worse than an unusable tractor.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm off to see my grandson today so no work on the tractor is allowed by the boss. Everything in the box was new and unused. The box was not opened and shipped from Deere through my dealer.

For anyone who has not seen this kit, I am posting a link to the TTWT demonstration and installation video.

Nice of you to post the video. I'll be posting information as well, and I'll start with this;

The cost for the single point is not at or around $800 anymore. My cost from my dealer (for one not missing parts) was $632.00

Yes, price was lowered within 3 days after I posted the video! Frustrating!!

Tim,
While installing the fitting to the Faster release it's noticeable that they can be turned in until they hit the domed part inside the release. I turned my fittings in by hand until they touched the bottom, then turned them off the bottom one (1) full turn. Is this correct?

I always open the oil filter boxes before purchasing too. I’ve seen cheap filters put into the more expensive boxes where someone swapped them around to save a few bucks.

I have never had a part come from JD that wasn't packaged properly.

And agree on the box stores. I got a chain for my 455 Rancher the other day at Lowe's and the package is right, for a 20 in bar, but the chain I got was for about a 24 in bar.............
