I recently bought a 1967 John Deere 110. I has been restored in the past and pretty nice condition. Here is my problem, the tractor runs great, goes great on flat ground. When it comes to a hill/incline or pulling anything thats heavy (plow) it just sits there. The confusing thing is that in reverse gear the tractor will dig and dig the tires like I would expect them to do in any forward gear. Any ideas what could be wrong?

The drive belts might be worn or may need adjusting.

does it act the same in all forward gears? I would look at the belt if it does. if its only a problem in 2nd, or 3+4 it might be time to open the transmission.

luckily parts are available, and so are drop in replacements.

check that the pulley is a actually turning the input shaft,
the brake band to be sure its not dragging causing problems
