I have a KingKutter II 48" tiller I bought at Tractor Supply close to 10 years ago. It is offset to cover your tracks. It is stoutly built and an excellent value for homeowner use.

I think a quart is plenty. Mine needed to be topped off if I remember correctly.

From the manual:
BEFORE PUTTING ROTARY TILLER INTO SERVICE
(IMPORTANT- INSTRUCTIONS PRIOR TO START UP)
SHIPPED WITH OIL IN GEAR BOXES
SHIPPED WITHOUT GREASE IN GREASE FITTINGS.
UNIT MUST BE SERVICED BEFORE USING.
· *When Adding Oil Use Multi-Purpose Gear Oil (I.E. S.A.E. 80w/90 or S.A.E.
85w/140 Multi-purpose gear oil) in Gearbox.
· For all Grease Fittings use TYPE/grade II tube grease
