Hi guys, I've told you, that I'm a kind of "janitor" at the Ars Natura Foundation. Today we needed a ladder in the woods - to hang some hagstones back in the trees. And for transporting the ladder, I've build myself a holder on top of the Gator cap - and so it looks.

Swivel mount?

All you need is a swivel mount and hydraulic extension for a mini fire truck.

Hagstones or H眉hnerg枚tter, as we say, are typical for the Baltic Sea. Most of them I've found on the danish island Langeland.

Nice gator setup. I too wonder,What is a "hagstone"?
Copied from a Google search:
Hag stones were believed to have magical powers, such as protection against eye, diseases, or evil charms, preventing nightmares, curing whooping cough, the ability to see through fairy or witch disguises and traps, if looked at through the middle of the stone, and of course recovery from snakebite

The H眉hnergott

About superstitions and collectors pleasures

When in the spring and autumn the wind blows on the Baltic somewhat stronger and powerful waves wash all sorts of flotsam to the shore, then migrate locals and tourists again with Argus eyes along the beach.
They are looking for ambers, thunderbolts, sea urchins or the multiform flints that stimulate the imagination of children and adults. Sometimes the flints even have a hole, and then they are called "chicken God".

"Flint"

Flints are very hard, but splinter easily. If they crack, caused sharp edges, making the flints were used thousands of years ago as tools. At Top Of Hitting sparks - hence the name.

As the hole is in the flint?

This question presented participants of a seminar on the Baltic Sea, as it has a H眉hnergott received as a gift at the end -. By saying this to be regarded as a talisman, and to guard
the flints, mostly black and surrounded by a white crust, can in cavities tiny crystals have, chalk or fossil inclusions. Weathering, Surf and mechanical influences by sand and stones solve the inclusions. Remaining deep cavities or even a hole or holes remain across the stone.

Where does the word and the significance of (te) of H眉hnergott?

The origin of the word "H眉hnergott" is still unknown. There is on the other hand no doubt that our grandparents already perforated bricks collected.
Reason enough for us, the (half) truths that have grown up around this famous stone, to go again to the bottom.

In the 1960s, appeared in the German translation Yevgeny Yevtushenko novella "The H眉hnergott". It says: "The H眉hnergott - which is a Meeressteinchen with a small hole is said that the Crimean Tatars would have believed that such stones, hung by a thread to the roost, the fowls ansporne to improved egg production, hence the name H眉hnergott.. . Later faith matters worse, a H眉hnergott also bring happiness to people seems to me, a little does everyone on such a lucky charm:.. the one with childishly trusting openness, the other secretly, with sullen doggedness " The protecting powers of a hole stone can be seen already a very ancient Slavic folklore. To Kikimora, an old Slavic deity, to prevent them from stealing the poultry or to interfere with the egg laying, attached to a stone with a natural hole in the stables on. (Read in the resultant in the 19th Century Dictionary of the Great Russian language of Vladimir Dal)
The perforated bricks are still attributed to mysterious forces in some regions of Germany. They say she put a spell against any calamity that can one befall by evil spirits, so albums or Druden, as they are a unique natural phenomenon. Condition is that the hole is not created artificially.

H眉hnergott - a popular collector's item

H眉hnerg枚tter are now collected like as gifts, jewelry, or for decorative purposes. Small copies can be worn around the neck as a pendant on a chain or leather strap. Larger serve as a paperweight or pen holder.
The big one sees, for example, still in gardens or front yards on the island of R眉gen: They are also called "Sassnitzer Flowerpots", can ever weigh more than 100 kilograms and are planted by locals happy with flowers , Collecting this giant but now prohibited for conservation purposes.

Pick but also your very own lucky charm! But before Sammlergl眉ck comes the effort: Set back from the village centers and white beaches, where fewer people walking and running is a bit more difficult, waiting in the sand between rocks and boulders small treasures: beautiful shells, thunderbolts and chicken gods ...

Danger:

Think beneath the cliffs at your security! Notes provide warning signs to the cliffs and the health resorts on site.

Please note:

At beaches and nature reserves sand, fossils and stones may be collected only in small quantities for personal, non-commercial purposes.
In some places heaped rubble walls meet an existential protection during storm surges. - In this case, the removal of flotsam is prohibited. Please therefore keep the local signage!
