A month ago I started getting estimates for an additional garage from Morton Buildings, Foltz Buildings and local contractors. My objective was to have a contract signed with someone to start the project in the spring. I still have a shop where we used to live and need to get it emptied out so I can sell it next year.

The unseasonably warm weather here in Minnesota this December moved the project start date to this week. The site prep was completed yesterday. The ground was frozen down 6 - 12 inches but no problem for the contractor. The building will be a pole structure so it could be erected by the end of the month or early January. This will allow us to get concrete work done right after the spring thaw.

The building is going to be 30 x 36 with 10' sidewalls and vaulted rafters to allow a 10' overhead door in the front wall.

I have an aerial view with the building site location outlined, a picture of basically what the finished garage will look like and a few pictures of the site work from yesterday.

Very nice location, and building. Congrats on the early start. It was just 11 years ago when my P.B. construction started, during a very cold January and with about a foot of snow on the frozen ground, but contractor was prepared, and everything went just fine. Concrete work done in the early Spring, same as your plans.
Exciting times.

The wheels have been turning for months here. I'll be very interested in the vaulted trusses.......would love to see pics when you get to that point. Have fun with this project!

The materials for the project were delivered the week before Christmas. Yesterday I got a call that construction would begin today. I went out with my 2320 yesterday afternoon and blew 10" of snow off the building site so it was ready for today. Here are pictures of the site tonight. Sounds like he will be boring holes and setting poles starting tomorrow. Fortunately we're having mid 30's above zero through most of this week and mid 20's for next week so he should have decent conditions for the project. The one evergreen that's in the way is starting to come down and will be gone tomorrow.

Day 2 progress was good. Temps again today in the 30 degree area making it reasonable outside. Most of the poles are set as of tonight and the evergreen tree is now cut up and out of the way.

Yikes, I'm having flashbacks. I'd have a high string for lining up poles too. Helps get close to level faster.
Looks like it's going good.

Good progress the past couple of days. FYI, the contractor is working alone on this job as it's been hard to get help. He found out the windows due to arrive today have been delayed until Jan 20th. He still has plenty to do for the next week or so without them. The trusses will be going up today if all goes well.

His profile says South East Noth Dakota, but I thought it was being built in Minnesota. Not all that far away, maybe?

I forgot to update my profile location when we moved 2 months ago. Thanks for mentioning it.

Looking more like a garage all the time. The trusses went up yesterday. It looks like the mild weather is going to continue through next week so we'll see what happens. I had my little baby out today and she's anxious for her new home to get done.
