Looking at buying an X580

1306 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Idcutthat13
Hello,

I'm in Western PA and a dealership has a 2018 X580 with 665 hours. Asking $4300.
Just looking for any general advise regarding the price and the amount of hours on this mower. I like the X580 in general and if I were to buy something new today that is what I would get.
Anything specific I should check before purchasing?

Thanks!

That seems like a lot of hours on a 3 year old machine. I’ve got a 2017 X570 that I bought new in April 2018. It’s the same as the X580 without power deck lift and power steering. I mow 1 1/2 acre with it, my wife mows the other 1 1/2 acre with her X380 and then I pull a Cyclone Rake in the fall over the entire 3 acres vacuuming oak leaves. I only have 130 hrs on it.

Maybe it was used for mowing all summer and snow removal all winter. Those have the K72 transaxle, which are great. I’d make sure it was serviced as scheduled as well as the rest of the machine.

A X580 with 665 hours still has a lot of life left in her, depending on how well it was maintained and how hard it was used. If it looks good to you and it test drives good, you probably have the right machine for you. A quick google search will show you other used X580's and their asking price as a comparison. If you were to take out a loan and pay for the used unit over 60 months, your payment would be roughly $70.00/ month. A new X580 ( at list price) would cost you $128.00 over that 60 months. ( discounts, interest and taxes not included). For $ 60.00 additional per month you get a brand new machine. Or you save $60 if you are comfortable with the used unit. Without seeing the unit and without knowing more about your property and how you intend to use the unit, it's hard to give you additional things to consider. If you can share more info, you will get more advice from this site and these experienced owners.

I'd have to agree that 665 hours is alot. My 2013 x540 I run all year around mowing and snow and I have 380 hrs, which is 47 hours/yr. No doubt this x580 has many years to go, but the fact is, this unit must have been used in some commercial capacity to generate those kind of hours at ~221 hours/year. If you are intent, I would give a very thorough inspection to ascertain how hard this unit was pushed, and how well it was maintained.

Thanks everyone! I agree with everything mentioned and have been thinking along those lines. I mow less than an acre and I want a machine of this caliber or better so I can do some other projects. So, a comfortable machine for cutting grass and able to tow, maybe drank a rake abd possible more intense ground engagement. This might be a great machine, if it was well taken care of and doesn’t have gremlins it would be a great fit. But there isn’t really anyway to know without buying it and finding out.

I have enough projects and don’t need my mower being one of them. I just need it to work when I need it.

Also, I found out it’s a 2017. Regardless, it is a lot of hours and must have been used commercially.
Edit - It is a 2018 lol. I was looking at the wrong tractor for a minute.
