I'm about to purchase a new 1025r which i plan to use for mostly landscape & cleanup type work (no mowing). Much of the cleanup is on hills (fallen trees and brush). I'm a bit concerned about the hills and stability issues. I would try and do most of the work vertical (going up and down hills) but some would need to be done going sideways.

I was considering mounting a winch to pull the stuff to a safe place then using the grapple to grab and haul it away. Does anyone have a similar situation or recommendations?

Also - about the price - anyone know what is the typical discounts? If I do a build your own it comes out to about 27K but seen adds for similar (Backhoe & FEL) for about 22K. Is that a typical discount? (I know I will likely need to add a 3rd function which will increase the price a bit ~ $1500 installed).

And of course - any grapple recommendations would be appreciated

If the dealer has to put the tractor loader and backhoe together you will pay a cost more like what the build your own shows. If they order it as a factory TLB then you will see a significant discount because there are no dealer labor fees to factor in. Mine was 21K last year.

If you really want stability on hills. Get the 72lb start weight or 2 50lb weights on each side. Tire fluid will help also.
I have 1.4 inch spacers from bro-tek and the 72lb weights on mine and I slid sideways once down a nearly 25 degree hill and it didnt feel tipsy.
I definitely recommend spacers.

The 3rd function is about 1300 just in parts. It requires a Power beyond line kit. loader line kit, and the 3rd function kit.
You will need the PB kit even though the tractor has a PB for the backhoe. The kit has additional lines to mate up with different configurations.

The dealer can order the AV20F grapple for you as well. It will likely be cheaper than any other option. It was quoted to me about $1600 last year.

Artillian has a grapple. By the time you add the fork frame, grapple sections, and shipping, you get close to $3000.00 🤯

The AV20F is a beast...not sure about all the JD attachments but the grapple is legit.

The 1-series has limited lifting capacity, so keep that in mind when selecting your grapple and the weight of it. I went with the Everything Attachments Wicked Root. Great features and performance without being excessively heavy. Well built in the USA.

I suspect I could have gotten a bit more out of the deal if I was willing to shop it a bit harder but there was a good chance I'd lose a month or two waiting for delivery. I have a lot of work I want to get done now before the growing season starts in earnest, so I decided I was willing to forego a chance to save another $1000 or so to get a machine now.

The other thing I might be considering in terms of timing is interest rates, which seem likely to go up at some point. On a 60-month note each point is worth ~$750. The 0% offer is out there right now until the start of May, so for buyers who need to finance that could create a squeeze where you save $1000 on the purchase price by waiting but give it back in interest.

I did purchase the mower deck because I don't want multiple machines in my 2-car garage, and because I figure it will be easy to sell with the machine or separately if I hate it. I'm probably going to order an Artillian grapple + pallet forks setup soon as well. The grapple and forks share the frame, so the pricing versus two dedicated implements is pretty close and you save a bit of storage space.

No, just the FILB. I got a nibble off the implements but both of the dealers I was shopping with seemed uninterested in negotiating much on those.

As far as the 0% rate possibly going away, the dealers have "mentioned that" as an incentive to take action now to motivate people to buy today. Now they are using the "You won't be able to get the tractor", yet some dealers have adequate inventory of the most popular models and equipped machines.

I can tell you that Deere has had the 0% for 60 months on the SCUTS since 2016 and likely before. Shortly before one 0% session is about to expire, they will announce another. The 0% is a crucial sales tool for Deere and the Dealers and its likely to continue for some time.

Deere is one of the very few who doesn't charge a "fee" to buy down the interest rate on the tractors, They do have a cost of money factor on other equipment and the method of payment determines the final price. They do this on their diesel Zero turn mowers and other equipment, as I went arounf and around with the sales guy on this very point.

Deere dealers have a huge benefit of Deere Financial being their own finance arm for machinery. The consumer loan default rate is very, very low. Even during the most recent financial CRISIS, the loans in trouble were much less than 1%.

Your dealer is participating in the loan for any equipment financed by Deere. The dealer has to repossess any equipment which ends up in default and the dealer is responsible for making the machine ready for resale. Any amount which the dealer is able to sell the unit for which is greater than the outstanding loan, the dealer profits

. If the machine is sold for less than the outstanding debt, the dealer incurs the loss and has to pay the remaining balance to Deere financial. This doesn't happen very often. Most customers will sacrifice other items to avoid losing their Deere when they hare struggling to meet the loan terms and they have any other options.

The 0% is a huge sales tool and its critical for machine sales. i asked my dealer what percentage of the SCUT buyers pay cash for the entire purchase at the time of delivery and he said less than 5% of all buyers.

I would never have financed unless the dealer matched my negotiated cash price to the penny at 60 months. Literally same as cash. I can make the outstanding balance make money so it's a no brainer. Above that time period, however, they indeed did have a fee for financing up to 82 months. That, I wouldn't pay and would have paid cash had the 60 month not been same-as-cash.

I might have failed to mention that I think 18% off of MSRP is a place that you can quickly zero down to when negotiating. Just calculate that number and have it as your last and best and start a bit below. Add in some things along the back-and-forth though I was only able to wrangle a ballast box out of them at that price threshold.

I called a few days later to ask one more question and sign a contract, and he said, "sorry, sold all my 1025Rs over the weekend, will have more coming in June." He'd had those machines on the lot for months so I figured they'd be safe but I guess by the end of March everybody was having the same idea I was. Like I said, if I was willing to haggle and wait I'm sure I could have gotten a somewhat better deal. YMMV.
