My BIL does gunsmithing as a hobby. He acquired a Stevens Model 87H 22 Semi Auto Rifle a while back. When he was disassembling it to clean and refreshen, he had a problem removing the firing pin. It was jammed and by the time he was able to work it loose, it broke. Looks as though someone repaired it with silver solder and didn't give enough tolerance for the action.

I brought the firing pin to a friend's machine shop for him to give me an idea on how best to repair, or to make a new part. After much discussion and measuring, he gave me a couple sections of Starrett stock material to make another. He would have taken on the task, but is very busy at this time.

As far a replacement, I've search the internet and there is none to be found. There are quite a few people looking for replacement pins.

Below is the damaged firing pin.

Below is the pin and a section of Starrett stock to manufacture a replacement.

The stock is 1/8" thick, so it will need to be narrowed to the thickness of the original firing pin.

Once milled to the correct size and dimensions, it will need to be hardened. I will perform the hardening process, as I have the instructions that came with the stock material.

If anyone here, with a Mill would be willing in taking on the task, please PM me with for more info and a quote.

Thanks,

Call Jack First Gun Parts at 605-343-8481. They show one on their page but you have to call to order from them. We get things from them frequently for my son’s gunsmith shop.

Thanks a bunch, CoryB. :good2:

I called and they had what seems the be the Firing Pin upgrade(different model number). From the Firing Pin shown on their web site, it looks to be a direct fit. The price(to my door) is $42.60, not bad.

I'm wondering why the site would not come up on a web search. :dunno:

Thanks again.

You’re welcome. Glad I could help.

Until recently the website just said to call them and order catalogs.

They are slowly getting some inventory listed online but the site may not have been spidered yet.

When we first opened our store 5 years ago we bought their catalogs and still use them regularly. The ladies who answer the phone are amazing in the depth of their knowledge of thier stock, especially given how much stuff they have.
